all files are corrupt it says hey guys i have used limewire for a long time and never had a problem but i just bought a new computer, its a sony viao and downloaded the new version of limewire. I am connected through bellsouth DSL and have a linksys router model# WRT54GS the speed booster model and when i try to download anything it says the file is corrupt and wont play it. Could anyone help me if it is a problem with limewire or my computer settings i have no idea how to change it. Thanks again Jonathan |
oh yeah and also my computer came with the new version of norton anti virus which i think uses its own firewalls but i dont know anything about firewalls so any help with walkinhg me through this would be appreciated |
On your latter - and possibly more urgent question - Please check and hopefully confirm that you have a combined 'package' of Norton Internet Security (or a very similar sort of name) that includes Norton Anti-Virus... I will be more than happy to help you through the install as well as setup/configuration... I am sure that there are others out there who will also add their comments... It ain't rocket science, BUT... There are for sure a few logic chasms on the way... (as opposed to gaps !) |
You may in fact have more than one issue to deal with! You use a Linksys router which generally use NAT which is similar to a firewall. Your model must be a new model b/c I can't find exact instructions on forwarding a port on your model. But I suspect you wil need to forward a port to allow LW full access. Your router will limit incoming & perhaps this is related to your problem. I can provide you instructions for forwarding a port on a similar model (WRT54G, or WRT54G v1.1, v2 & CA) if it's necessary. Please do the following test for me: Bug Report instructions & sample image (click on link) & report back to us whether your result for incoming is True/False? Another suggestion, update your Java. LW is made thru Java & uses Java for its operation. The newest version was designed with Java 1.4.2 & 1.5 environments. Update your Java here: Java 1.4.x OR the latest Java 1.5 (take the JRE) |
recieved incoming this session came out as false bro. |
and also the linksys router is brand new i just picked it up 3 days ago and it is a new model. thanks fopr any help guys |
FALSE is a bad sign!!! And Linksys modem/routers use a type of firewall. I think you'll need to open a port (ie: forward a port) within your modem to allow LW total access in & out wards. But to help you do this you need to tell me the model no. It'll be on the top or bottom of the modem most likely. Once I have that I can give you instructions on how to open the port for LW on your modem. |
on my modem or my router??? |
linksys router model # is wrt54gs bellsouth dsl modem is a westell and model # is b90-610031-06 |
Oh! You have both! That makes it more complicated (I think!) Give me both the brand name & model no. of both & I'll check 'em both out! |
sorry i got one digit wrong on the dsl modem B90-610030-06 |
For the Linksys router you'll need to browse it. I don't seem to be able to find directions for wrt54gs but I'm hoping one of the following models will be identical: 1. Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G OR perhaps 2. Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G v1.1, v2 & CA And you'll also need to Force IP within LW. LW settings instructions for Force IP (& sample image) Tell us how you go. And do another Bug Report & see if it's True/False. (I think your modem should be safe!) |
ok i couldnt set up a static IP the numbers that i took down did not work and after i was done i couldnt connect to the internet, so i had to go back to the way it was before which was settin git automatically. Is there another way around this or what do i need to try and do now. |
anybody??????? |
Did you view the link on that page in Step 1: "Take a look at our Static IP Address guide to setup a static ip address." Click on that link. If it didn't accept it then you're missing something/not doing it properly or not saving yur changes. Give it another go. :) |
bro i did it a few times exactley as it said but after it was done i couldnt connect to the internet so i dont know what is up with the numbers. setting up the static ip is useless to me if i have no internet connection |
I'm not sure about your brand of modem, but with some at least yo need to reboot it after doing the port forwarding. Also, quote: If you find that you can not pull up webpages, the problem is most likely the dns numbers you entered. Give your isp a call, and they will be able to tell you which dns servers to use. This is a question they answer all of the time. They will be able to tell you what you should use right away. |
