All of a sudden absolutely EVERYTHING is corrupt! Anyone have answers??

Yesterday everything worked fine, and now today there is not one single song that is not corrupt. WTF?!! Anyone have any ideas? I realize some people don't clean out their shared folders after downloading a corrupt file but at this rate, there's enough of them to populate a nation. Is something going on with Gnutella and no one's talking?? Any info is appreciated. I'm stuck in Italy and this is the only way I get good tunes from back home. MTV in Europe is weird...getting desperate here....:(

Make a note of all your LW settings then close it down. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Also try to avoid dwnlding from T3 sources.

my fault for not being more specific.....

Hey thanks for responding so quickly, am actually running LW on a Mac. OS X. Will try to look for the folder you mentioned. Although do u mean for this to restore the factory settings? I did that, just hit the button they so nicely provided, but it didn't help :( I don't understand why it's only just started doing this, within the span of a few hours. Seems like something must be going on....

Sorry that was for windows. For OSX go: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Another reason your dwnlds might be corrupt if you're going thru a firewalled/NAT environment/both. Many modems/routers nowadays se nat technology which blocks out many ports & can potentially cause corrupted dwnld packets. Anser would be to configure yor connections devices properly.

But to help you there you'd need to provide us the brand name & model number(s) of the modem/routers.

Do you want me to delete the entire folder in the preferences section?

Found the folder, should I get rid of the whole thing? As for my modem, Limewire worked fine before and have been using this modem and account for a few months now. Hell Limewire worked better than the actual Italian Internet connections do. Just in case though, it's a D-Link ADSL modem model #302T (I think). All I'm using is that and my Mac. iBook G4 running latest version of OS X. Teach me Yoda, I have much to learn.....
BTW, your tip on staying away from the Evil T3 sources has helped some ;)

Delete the LW Prefs do you mean? yes. But 1st make a note of all your LW settings b/c if you trash the prefs you'll need to reset the settings within LW. You have a USB modem. Not always recommended to use USB modems with G4's but if it's working fine for you then fine. Can you do a small test for me: Bug Report instructions & sample image & tell us whether your result is true or false. Also make a quick visit here: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php & ignore the text in Red box! Just tell me what it says in the grey box area below it (under The Applet.) All you need to tell me is whether it says you use NAT or not. If there's no mention of it then that's fine.

ok, I did as you asked ;)

Ok, so I went into the library preferences, found the LW folder and am deleting it from the library. Am not worried about my preferences as I have nothing fancy set up. I just look for the instant gratification of music, not too worried about setting s and such ;) I checked the bug report sample and it showed up as True, which is good right? My modem is USB and Ethernet so I'm connected via ethernet actually. Oh and that website you sent me to says I use NAT. Let me know if you need any other info and thanks so much for your prompt and incredibly knowledgeable help. I have never gotten help this quickly from anyone online, you've definitely raised the standard, and so has Limewire. In the support department anyways ;)

Your bug report test being true is ideal. I then don't think your modem is the issue. I've heard that USB modems generally don't require a port to be forwarded. I have a D-Link but mine is not USB.

Dare I ask, it's not so important, but which model G4 do you have? I'm just curious about the USB card on your comp. Only the last G4's had the faster USB cards. Mine is the 12 Mbps, compared to the G5's usb ports of about 400. And of course Firewire is about 400 Mbps or 800 for Firewire 2.

I have a suspicion you've just been unlucky with the sources of the files you've dwnlded. Yes the word is the music industry is loading T3's up with corrupt music files to try to thwart people's enthusiasm to dwnld music via p2p. Search the forum for the word corrupt or T3.

If you'd like to run some tests on your modem set up go here: http://www.broadbandreports.com/tools

Here's some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints.

I have an 800 MHz PowerPC G4. In the system specs it shows my USB tree listing, the regular ones are 12 mbps and then there's one that says USB High Speed Bus and it's 480 mbps. Japanese to me, but I believe you speak the language ;)

The modem tests are interesting but which one should i run? I don't need to be pinged to know that my connection is not always on like it should be. I constantly get booted. I bet Middle Earth gets better service than Italy.

I agree with you though, I think I am just getting some disprespect from my file choices. Staying away from T3 helps some. The Cable/DSL ones get me too sometimes though. Yesterday I managed to download a whole song which was fine except for the last minute of it has the wierd high pitched sound of the corrupt files, but it didn't show up as corrupt as most of the file was alright.

What is so wrong with wanting to listen to the knew Chevelle I ask you!?!!! I'm happy to buy the albums once I hear them and like them....Ok am getting a grip now. Thank you again. You are seriously The Man.
