NOW how do I connect with the new download bandwidth meter?

Hey,

I have a cable modem, and I just installed the newest version of Limewire. I have a 250 kbps upload bandwidth so what should I set my download and upload bandwidth to? I am running behind Windows SP2 firewall but i can turn that off and put on Norton firewall. Which should I use for the best download speed? Currently, my video downloads arent going any faster than 12 kbps. Music is about 60-80 range.

but listen to this,

When I decide to change from "cable/dsl" to "T1" my music downloads seem to faster than 100kbps and my videos about 25-40kbps. But thats only sometimes.

I also have a shared internet connection. I cannot get on the internet unless my other computer is turned on. We are connected by these Netgear Powerline USB Adapters XA601.

Please help me get the best out of Limewire before I decide to switch to a different program.

thanks.

I think you're getting confused here between kbps & KB/s. 250 kbps is roughly equivalent to 30 KB/s but you are not going to get that. There is always what's known as overhead where you lose a % of this. Check your real speed here: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/ & choose your state or country.
LW shows speeds in KB/s. So 12 KB/s is equivalent to about 100 kbps.

If you're using a router then you will be partially blocked by an internal firewall called NAT or other type. We'd need to know your model number to offer any advice how to allow it to give 100% access for LW.
For firewalls see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml & for Norton internet security see here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=30505

Here's some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

the results of the speed test are:

2004-12-15 17:43:06 EST: 2449 / 249
Your download speed : 2508636 bps, or 2449 kbps.
A 306.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 255395 bps, or 249 kbps

I dont have a router, I use a shared connection like i mentioned before. Please tell me what settings I should use to get the best performance

thanks.

I already did give you links to guidelines. See the links in the last paragraph. Particularly the 1st one. You can even post there.
