so, as a newbie who is also computer illiterate (at least i am honest : ) --- do i read your posts to mean that the higher the bit rate listed for a file, the better the quality usually is?

thanks for any replies

The simple answer is yes! 320 kbps is the max quality of an mp3. The lowest is 32. Which is a waste of time in most people's books. 192 or above is definitely worth going after 'if' you have the choice. 128 -160 is not too bad, but still... Anthing less than 128 is not worth the effort in many cases.

music quality

I'm having the same problem with split second breaks during all downloads at non-specific times. I've entered the question to the Support line but have head nothing as yet. You?

Yes... don't rely on the LW media player for consistent results. Use an alternative player for playback if you're having this issue. A good one which is free & has built in codecs & plays everything is QCD: http://www.quinnware.com/ Might want to make it your default player (select any mp3 file outside of LW, go to File>Properties>Open with & choose your app. Then choose always open with.)

You'd need to go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Player & untick the player option & press the Apply button. Now your default player will launch everytime you launch a song.

I downloaded a music file that has 3 stars under the quality category. However, the bit rate is 192 kpbs and the sound quality is great! The only thing is that I don't know what the stars mean.

Lord of the Rings January 28th, 2005 01:34 PM

viche12345 the stars refer to potential download quality or chances of downld success, not sound quality.
