XP has its own firewall. If you're using zonealarm it will also have a firewall. You will need to configue both to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

What type of modem are you using? Can you tell me the brand name & model no.? Is it a USB or ethernet modem?

For those that have 2 firewalls. Often they will disable XP's firewall & use the 2nd one instead.

After LW has been on for sometime, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image If it says false then you probably do have a firewall issue.

Did you try deleting your LW Preferences folder? If you do you should 1st make a note of all your settings within LW b/c you'll need to reset them. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

sorry don't really know what that is or what it will do

OK sometimes the preferences of LW can become a bit corrupted. Deleting them will allow it to create new ones the next time you open LW. By giving it fresh preferences it often solves these types of issues. LW needs to be closed when you do it.

When you find them put them in your trash/recycle bin.

you mean just delete that folder off line or with lw shut down this wont couse any other problems

Lord of the Rings January 12th, 2005 07:37 AM

It won't cause any problems. Just close/quit LW. And yes delete the preferences folder. This will NOT affect your downlds. Your incomplete files preferences are stored elsewhere (in the incomplete folder.) :)

oo the bug report says nothing of false so does this mean it's more than likly the thig your speaking of

Lord of the Rings January 12th, 2005 07:43 AM

Yes it will mean that your XP firewall is partially blocking your LW. Follow the instructions at the above link to enable LW. This will still give you full firewall protection.
