turbo drops to zero

My movie *** made it to 385mbs than I got cut off the Internet sometime last night I would like to know how I can resume this movie without it draining LW THE MOVIE IS 747mbs long and this is the second time it stopped because of my stupid Internet provider. 'man I can't Idol for more than two hrs' than they cut me off!. Anyhoot! please someone tell me how I can pick this one back up because every time I try to log on to LW with the movie pending for download I do as yaw'll told me before! Just let it resume on it's own and it does so pretty fast to! it starts downloading than I'll put the curser over the movie and it's building the host up real fast to their was 500 host 100 valid I think 250 invalid and some busy before I got cut off and once it starts to resume about 1 min later LW the turbo drops to zero and it keeps doing this on any incomplete download no matter the size! is their something else I can try doing please I have dial up and dialing in at top speed for dial up and I aim running windows me. O and also this is the only movie I have in my Incomplete folder I have nothing else in it. LW use to work great with the same setup I have now only than I was sharing many things and downloading many things and it never had trouble's reconnecting or draining itself and yes I'm still using 4.2.3 pro and the the basic Java cause that was when it worked it's best for me now LW CAN'T PICK BACK UP ON 1 DOWNLOAD I PERSONALLY DON'T THANK THAT IS THE CONSUMER'S FAULT. All this started happening when yaw'll went from 4.2.3 on up in my book! (4.2.3) was great! If it's not broke don't fix it.THANKS IN ADVANCE!

NOW I LIKED 4.2.3 WITH ALL THE NEW TESTING THAT YAW'LL ARE DOING YOU DON'T THINK MAYBE THAT HAS SOMTHING TO DO WITH IT!

Sounds as though you have problems with your ISP. I hope you don't use AOL. That's known to cause problems for some people. Nice RED. Except it's a bit sore on the eyes. lol :D

I don't know why you keep losing your connection. How many files do you share. Some people filter out those that share less than a certain no. So if you share less than that no. you'd never be able to connect with them even though they show in your search results.

If you have people uplding from you then you should receive consistent results.

donothing February 1st, 2005 03:50 AM

I'm not sharing none right now I have nothing in my shared folder could that be why I've been having all these troubles redownloading couse before I reformated I had LW AND yes I did always keep a few thigs in there to share and I could pick back up on several downloads just by letting LW settle and resume on it's own like you said befor but I didn't think not haveing anything in my shared folder would effect the movie i'm downloading unless I was downloading from that person Now if this sounds to you like what my trouble is I'll manually put stuff in thier
please tell ooo and also it is connecting just as soon as it connects and starts to download from like 4 to 5 host thats when it pulls LW DOWN from turbo to nothing well for instace I'm at LW right now redownloading it for the 3rd time and if I get cut off the internet for some resien when i reboot and get back online and open LW it will start downloading agian in just secouds but it drains LW'S TURBO TO NOTHING. So like now as long as it's a fresh download of this movie starting at zero i can talk to you , go anywhere on the internet and it stays on turbo but if i try to start the download where it left off last night at 350mbs i can't it starts fast than turbo drops to zero so i'm on 10% agian and been downloading it sence 3:00 am so if you get any idea's of how i can get the other one to start and stay on turbo I still got the movie and it's BAK FILE ON MY DESKTOP AND I WOULD RATHER START DOWNLOADING FROM IT COUSE IT'S ALREADY 40 MIN INTO THE DOWNLOAD 350 mbs of it. my doughter really wants to see this movie and I can't stay up all night just to make shure AOL DON'T KICK ME OFF THE INTERNET FOR IDOOOOOOLING LOL!
THANK YOU!

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 04:35 AM

It could be the shared issue! The other day when I started up the Win LW it took its time to load up the shared files. But once it got past a certain no., all of a sudden a a couple of downlds mysteriously continued. That might have been luck or it could have been the minimum share requirement of the person(s) with those files.

Is it possible to set your AOL so it doesn't go inactive after 'any' period of time?

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 06:51 AM

Did you check your modem setting like I showed in the image to set it to Never disconnect?

I've never used AOL so I don't know what options they give & what rules they play by. Some dial up providers will disconnect you if they detect you haven't used the browser to go anywhere or other net search after a certain amount of time.

Dial up is 56 kbps which means you only have a maximum speed of 7 to 8 KB/s. There apparently are super speed dial up services now but I know little about them & I think you'd need to pay more for them. If you want faster speeds then you should be looking at broadband or cable connection. Those people who get 27 TO 40 KBS are using either broadband/adsl or cable. The other advantage of these over dial up is that they leave your phone free to use. If you're using dial up you can't use your phone at the same time. But they cost much more depending on your area.

donothing February 1st, 2005 07:01 AM

THEY DON'T OFFER DSL IN MY AREA OUT IN THE WOODS AL. YEA I WISH THEY DID AND BROAD BAND THEY TOLD ME I COULDN'T GET IF I HAVE ONLY DIAL UP SATALITE IS MY ONLY CHOICE YES! Just a thought it sounds like it might be a resource issue. I understand you are using a dialup connection through aol.
Try this as soon as LW opens pause the d/l let LW stabilize for say 10 minutes or so. Then do a manual search for your file. Let the search complete. Then click resume one time this should resume the download then close your manual search. Please don't click the resume more than once as this will create a hardship on your resources and LW network.

Also a better description of your setup would help.

Machine Type including CPU type
How much ram
free HDD space
connection type
etc.

BTW when I first got this machine I had Dialup and aol. I recall having a similar problem when using Netscape Navigator when downloading. AOL would disconnect after so long.

thansks agian!

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 04:22 PM

250 MB ram is not a lot for LW! Even for windows using todays apps.

fabion February 1st, 2005 05:02 PM

hmm looks like it may be resource problems here. I just checked the microsoft website. It said 64 Mb ram min. sys requirement 128 Mb ram recomended. It also recomended a modem driver update for aol users who were experincing disconnect problems. Not sure but the way the article read I don't think that is an issue for you, but the ram certaintly does. You can do a search for windows me and it should return a link to the right ms site if you want to read it.

I think when you are trying to start LW with a d/l there are 3 programs trying to use your ram at the same time. ME, AOL, & LW.
LW being on the bottom of the priority list. Kinda Like being in a traffic jam.

If you try the suggestion I made in the previous post this may eliminate some of the burden on your ram.

Also check to make sure your modem driver is up to date.

Let us know if this helped.
