No Uploads 'Cos I'm On A LAN?

Limewire connecting and dloading fine, but i feel bad that no-one can upload (even though i am sharing plenty of files).

I think i have done everything i should to stop the windows firewall blocking Limewire, including opening specific ports (and even just turning it off for a while), but the tools-options-bug check thing still says false and there are still no uploads.

Is this because I am on a home LAN and this pc goes through a wireless router, then another pc, then an ADSL modem to get to the internet? (this was the problem with WinMX, and why i gave up on it in the end).

XP, SP2, only windows firewall.

If there is a simple solution, then i'd be grateful.

Read a few more posts, and maybe my broadband modem has a NAT firewall of it's own. It is a speedtouch (can't find model number), if that helps at all. Do i need to forward a port - and how do i do that if so?

Lord of the Rings February 6th, 2005 12:38 PM

Whether the Speedtouch needs port forwarding depends on the model & whether its connected via usb or ethernet.

If you're on a lan, remember only one port can be forwarded per computer. So if you have more than one LW connecting it would need a separate port no. Not a major issue really but just you need to be aware & prepared for that.

A sensitive question! Do you feel you need SP2. SP2 reduces simultaneous connections. There's M$ & 3rd party patches fixes that work for some people. But the most effective I've heard is to uninstall SP2.

I think i can follow the guide on portforward.com OK (although they don't cover my model of adsl modem, a speedtouch 330), but what i'd really like to know is what if any complications there will be with the process as described there for my LAN setup (which as i understand it is a little unusual - most people have a central router which both pcs connect to the net through, whereas the one i am on now gets to the net through the other one). And also, you talk about SP2. I am fairly attached to it - are you saying it won't work at all with sp2 without patches/uninstalling it, or what?

Oh, and does my wireless router (connected to my pc that is connected to the modem, but not directly to the modem) come into this at all?

Lord of the Rings February 7th, 2005 09:12 AM

I'm not so sure your speedtouch 330 needs port forwarding. I don't know. Portforward.com don't list all models, only those that have been donated by users mainly. So it's not always easy to know whether a particular model needs it or not if it's not listed at Portforward.com.

Which Router device do you use? Is it listed at Portforward.com ?

As far as SP2, no it might not necessarily even be due to that. I was exploring possibilities. If it is the issue, then ... hmmm.. not sure. For some people sp2 is fine.

Sorry to take up your time, i have now done what i always do when confronted with computer problems - keep fiddling with settings until something works. As far as i can tell now it does - or at least that's what this means, yes?
