Default Having problems

I am fairly new and have been reading through these forums finding them very helpful. But I still have these probs, hope you can help.

My fastest download speed is 3kb/s once gone up to 4! I have decreased my bandwidth to half, after reading one post on here, but it hasnt changed anything, I expect it to be slower as I am on dial up until I move home. But should it be this slow or am I missing something.

Also some of my avi files I cannot preview but seem to be fine once fully downloaded, is this right?

Plus ABC programs I have downloaded are fine when playing on my wmp, but once put onto cd, play either as a mirror image or too fast for the audio. Is this a copyright thing, and can I get round it?

Thankyou, hope you can help.

I have a 256mb modem if that helps!

Terri

As a dial up user you cannot afford much upload bandwidth. I'm a little confused with your set up description. Most dial up services are 56 kbps not 256 kbps. There are some faster dial up services but...

For dial up that's not unusual for download speed. As per normal. Dial up only has a maximum capability of 6 - 7 KB/s.

Some hints for optimising LW (some of these won't be so applicable to a dialup user): A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.
