Lord of the Rings March 1st, 2005 06:37 AM

See: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&pagenumber=20

It depends on who you're downding from.

jomama366 March 1st, 2005 03:58 PM

but its like that from anyone that i download from....i had kazaa before and downloads were so much faster! they swear up and down that lime wire is faster than kazaa but i dont agree also most of the time it goes back to 0/kbps

Lord of the Rings March 1st, 2005 04:05 PM

Check some of the pointers & all the links thru here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34114

If this is different to how LW was previously then try deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed. See instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

sorry!! this type of thing is very common unfortunately. it may be a combination of things, and not just your pc. it may be the person from whom you are uploading. this is just one more item on the blah list of pc world. have a better day!!! :)

download slow

I'm having the same issue almost. my upload and download is this 900 KB up and 1.5 mb down. Most of the time I have a dl speed of about 10-40KB.. Even if there are lets say 100 hosts sharing. I could be dling from upto 15 hosts and still I get about 40 KB tops (most of the time). When i dl from anywhere else I usually run my dl speed (1.5 mb)... but here I never ever reach it the most i think i have ever had is like 80Kbs.... I read most of the sticky's.... and still blahhhhh..... let me know if you figured something out

PEACE>>>>>>>>>

P3GMR March 6th, 2005 08:36 AM

The highest I've ever gone was 53 KB, and that was once. Every other time, it's been below 18KBs, no matter how many hosts are sharing. So please, if you find something, help us out. :)

Try following the steps in this link for optimizing LW. It worked good for me. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34114

I have reached speeds of 170 KB/s d/l and seen u/l hitting 60+ KB/s. Except when I got blue star result a couple of times my d/l speed hit 380 KB/s, and I grabbed all the files. Of course they did the same with mine. Must have been a neighbor or someone really close.

mushroomturtle March 10th, 2005 03:01 AM

agh!

My speed has changed from around 53 to a maximum of 6 now. What is happening?

bushwacker March 11th, 2005 05:54 AM

I already did. This made no difference, despite being promised faster downloads. I feel conned.

Lord of the Rings March 11th, 2005 07:22 AM

mushroomturtle can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. HDD space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...)
9. Who is your isp provider?

The problem nowadays is once some isp's detect you're using p2p they filter it so you don't get the speeds as before. It's hard to know b/c they will never tell you. Why would they.

Did you try deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW was closed; instructions: Fixes for Limewire

Slow download

Hi, yes I have the same problem with slow downloads! I used to use winmx and averaged about 60 - 70kbs on a 512kbs adsl broadband. I was then disconnected by my ISP because I changed my phone line from my name to my girlfriends. After 2 weeks I was reconnected and the highest speed I could obtain was 0-10kbs! About once a week the speed will shoot up and I will ave about 20kbs for about 5hours and then it drops back. I then dowloaded Limewire and unistalled winmx and that had no affect.

System spec:
Dell
OS XP Home
P4 3GHZ
Ram 512mb
Broadband - 1mbs
510 Alcatel speed touch router

I have tried:

Network optimizers
Broadband tests for various sites including one with my ISP on the phone!
Formated my entire pc and installed only Limewire and XP
Logged another call with ISP, did more speed test and the results were as follows:
1st Speed test 156kbs on a 512kbs line
2nd speed test with network optimzer added = 182kbs on 512kbs line
ISP agrees to look into it no reply in over a week so I will be changing isp after 30days notice expires
Did speed test again a week later and speed is = 816kbs and I think they have up graded me to a 1mb line.

This has not changed my download speed for lime wire.

If I DL and program it starts at about 104kbs and drops down to 9kbs.

I can't think of anything else to to try? So please could someone help me.

Many thanks

Dazed and confused

WHo is your isp provider at the moment?

Update your java & delete your LW preferences folder, instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Justinuk March 12th, 2005 06:27 AM

Hi LROTR

Thanks for your reply, in your instructions it says to delete the .LW file only if you are running less than version 4.4, I'm running version 4.8.1.

ISP - Tiscali UK
My java is up to date.

I have read in a thread that your isp can block P2P, is that true?

Once again cheers for the help.

murasame March 12th, 2005 06:34 AM

Hey hey hey. Look at what cool things the forum search function can do:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=isp+blocking

An added bonus?-> http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=isp+blocking

Lord of the Rings March 12th, 2005 06:36 AM

No the 1st 2 apply to any version of LW! including preferences. But what I do notice is Tiscali as your provider. I've read reports of them deliberately slowing p2p users. They are probably filtering you. A no. of people with similar problem have posted on the forum. It's also listed here: ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire
If possible change isp providers. I'm not sure how they filter, I think they use special softw that detects p2p programs if I recall. You might try a different port but chances are that might not have any effect. You could also try connecting via proxy. I would put 95% chance that Tiscali are filtering you. Sorry to have to say it but ...

Dash it beaten by the one hand master bandit again. lol :D

Justinuk March 12th, 2005 08:30 AM

Thanks for all your help, if only there was a way to get back at them!

Cheers
