Just one point, if things have been going really well with downld speed & it all of a sudden continually drops to a dribble of say 1 or 2 KB/s, then if it's not the isp's fault, or roblems with devices, etc., it might be your LW preferences. Sometimes LW's preferences folder needs to be deleted to give lw a fresh start. |
Uh, you may want to pass this little piece of advice on to those who are having trouble with slow downloads. I switched from high speed cable to high speed adsl. All other settings were the same. I now have download speeds up to 150 KB/s. I will never use cable again. Please suggest this to any and all who are having trouble with slow downloads. I also want to thank you for your time in answering my questions. It's wonderful to have people like yourself (and others) who take the time to write back and help people out. I don't know if you realize how intimidating it can be to ask questions on a forum like this, especially if you really aren't that computer literate. I spent all day this past Sunday (and I mean 16 solid hours - my but was quite numb) reading the various threads here and the suggested websites like portforwarding.com, etc.. I learned quite a bit and am grateful for all the help. Thanks again. dijon |
Greetings dijon Who was your Cable ISP. This may help other users using that ISP if they have similar problems downloading. It appears they may be filtering p2p applications. Thank you |
Download issues That's interesting on cable. I didn't know they filtered it, how do I find out if mine does? You said something about deleting preferences and starting over?? If I have a lot of files I am trying to download and their all in the "awaiting" status is that going to slow things down?? Someone also said to do search's again for files that your having problems getting downloaed. I guess I don't understand what and how on that. If I do a search for a file that's awaiting and it's in the search already showing I am "waiting" how did that help me or am I missing something (besides my brain).. |
Who is your ISP? There might be something in common here! |
Howdee I was using Shaw Cable in Vancouver. I didn't know they were filtering, and I asked their tech people a couple of times if they were doing so, and they said no. Whatever. The modem was a Motorola SB 5100 Surfboard. Hopefully that helps other people. Cheers Dijon |
