when i go to donwload, something pops up saying "limewire is currently connecting to the network. your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network." then i noticed down the bottom, it says quality:connnecting and 1 bar is green.????? what do i do?

p.s i also used limewires official site and adjusted my windows xp internet connection firewall to allowed my firewall to open a port to gnutella. ???? now do i have to adjust my mcafee firewall to do the same thing and allow gnutella?

Yes and both most be configured to allow both TCP and UDP access.
