hello.
i cannot upload a mpg file that is in my library.
it is a shortvideo i made and want to share.
when i run a search, it only finds WMV files, with the same name as my video, but never the mpg that is in my shared folder.
MAC OSX, firewall gnutella ok. :(
please help

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 10:26 AM

Ah don't be tricked by autogenerated spam results (click on link)

To see if your video has been uplded or seen by others, go to your LW Library window & select that folder. Then look to the far right & you'll see whether people have downlded it or attempted to downld it or found it in their searches. Those stats are only true for that session.

Also do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image (click on link) If the result is True then that's good.

Helo.
thks for your quick reply.
Still no solution though.
mayb u didnt get my problem? i have this one video on my LW library, im trying to share it. i run a search from my own mac to verify if it is possible to share it, but the search rests are only of WMV files of the same name which turnn out to be weird ipod pictures(?!!!) nothing to do with my video. i run searches for other files in my lm lib. and i do find them! i hv chekd my file and it is perfect in content, i hv moved it, renamed it etc... still no good. any ideas?
thks so much for your kind attention.

best
val:confused:

1. You didn't understand my answer b/c you obviously didn't read the links (yes click on the bludy links lol) I left or read my answer carefully.

2. You cannot find your own files on your comp in a Gnet search.

If you are firewalled such as by a comp softw firewall or a modem/router nat firewall then people may find it very difficult to downld from you. That's why I wanted you to do the bug test to make sure you're clear. (By the way, links are those things above that are underlined & in this case coloured red & shine orange or blue when you hover your cursor over the top of them. So click them & see where it takes you.)

Below is a single folder of my shared folders as viewed from the LW Library window. It shows the hits & successful downlds of these files during a single session. (Mind you I share many, many a folder.)

stief April 5th, 2005 03:07 PM

btw--if a user does want to see their own files in search results, just enter ones own IP in Direct Connect.

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 03:28 PM

Maybe it's the way I'm set up but that's never worked for me on this mac. lol :D Nor can I view my windows 2k or vice versa from the same computer. lol hahaha :D  :p

stief April 5th, 2005 03:45 PM

LOTR--I'll recheck.

Valentina--post or message the name of your video and maybe we can try to find it. If it shows in black type (not red) in your LimeWire Library, others should be able to find it.

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 03:56 PM

I sent Valentina a pm asking exactly the same thing (including an apology.) So with any luck one of us should be able to at least find it & hopefully be able to access it for downlding.

no go here, searched for "GrannyValentinaHomem"
"Granny Valentina"
"grannyvalentina"

Try sending either of us a magnet of the file. To do this, you click on the file in your library, control-click the filename, and choose the magnet details.

Copy the Magnet link that pops up and message either of us with the link

et voilą April 5th, 2005 05:20 PM

didn't find it too, is it shared in the library tab in black text? (being red would mean it is not shared)

ą+

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 05:32 PM

The whole name is 'GrannyValentinaHomem.mpg'

Just got a pm she'll be out for a little while. So I guess just try alternatives till she gets back.

I'm still waiting for LW to fire up & settle. Still firing up lol.

et voilą April 5th, 2005 05:43 PM

Found it, can download it at 12KB/s... I browsed you and you are sharing D_E_R_I_D_A at 106.8Kb which is probably an iPOD spam... delete it (maybe the derida.wma is fake too).

Ciao

hey guys! i'm back, will try this magnetic thing and talk to you soon! ;)

stief April 5th, 2005 06:42 PM

Took several reconnects, but found it also 68,031 KB.

Same details as et voilą found.

Cheers

Likewise I did a DC & got the below results.

(My win 2k results didn't succed much at all. And fabion also ws unsuccessful)

Summary: This suggests there may be a block somewhere ... more than likely a firewall as hinted above which is preventing success at your upld!)

Please do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image And tell us whether the result is TRUE or FALSE?

OK downlding it now!!! if it's not the one at 68 MB then it's the wrong one but it's got your isp address. So late success.

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 06:48 PM

Likewise size so there's actually no problem at all. So ignore amy suggestion of a block.

fabion April 5th, 2005 06:51 PM

Just found it d/l from 2 host

stief April 5th, 2005 06:55 PM

someone is swarming from me (LW 4.8.0-->ouch! get the upgrade), and I apologize: my ISP is interrupting uploads at the moment.

An update on the other image, but it's slow for me so it must be busy lol :D :

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2005 07:00 PM

By the way keep this in mind about movies: autogenerated spam results & also perhaps this: Movie download issues

Hey

Did the test BUG REPORT thing, got a "TRUE",
so i guess no fire wall problems.

I can see that there are two people uploading my video, !!!!!! :D
thats great.

I still cannot find it myself on a search launched from my own mac. (doesnt really matter for me of course, as long as others can successfulyy download it to their plataforms).

Please let me know if you could download it successfully and if the content is intact and good for viewing.

xxx val

stief April 5th, 2005 07:51 PM

Val--I can preview the 1st 50% OK. . .
You're right that it is intensely powerful and moving.

Do you get a "Cannot Browse Host" error message when you type your own IP and port into the Direct Connect Search box?

fabion April 5th, 2005 08:09 PM

Hi Val I'm one or am trying anyway my d/l speeds are bouncing all over the place from 0 - 10 KB/s, and your my only d/l going

Hey

Stief> i am afraid i dont understand how the direct connect works. i tryed pasting this huge numeber (200.164.251.180:6346) that the thing says its what i should giv my friends so they can see my shared folder, i hit direct connect and it givs me an error message.
im sorry for the stupid question, but whats my IP ?:(

fabion, i dont undrestand why it varries so much, my computer is stable, no other software running,
and im not even touching it, besides right now.
why would it vary so much?... je ne sais pas!
still, im happy, the important is that it is possible to find it and download it, even at these strange rates. if you hv any suggestions to make it better, please let me know.

thank you again again again

love,
val

stief April 5th, 2005 08:50 PM

Val--that number you posted is like a telephone number for computers to talk to each other over the internet. It's called an IP number (Internet protocol number). The last 4 numbers after the colon is the port number--think of it as like a channel on a TV.

The reason you are getting an error message with DC is probably because all your upload spots are full, so LimeWire's error message is letting you know that the host is "unavailable"

In other words, wait until there are no uploads before you try the Direct Connect again.

Cheers--and best wishes to Grandma's caregiver.

To Direct Connect requires having open upld & downld slots & bandwidth for both parties. Also neither party being firewalled. And apparently having Chat enabled can help. See tips here: How to Direct Connect, Browse & Chat (so tell your friends to read these points. And to do the Bug test: Bug Report instructions & sample image And if this is True then they're not firewalled.)
I did a Direct Connect to you from my mac yesterday without problems.
