"file name is bad"

Every time I'm downloading a video file and try o preview it I get "couldn't open the file "preview..." because the file name was bad"
What does that mean? Is it because of my security settings?
New to Limeware so would appreciate any help.

Probably due to the file name being too long or it may have an illegal character. So change the file name to something much shorter. Also make sure it has a file extension.

But how do I change the name of the file? And how do I know what characters are illegal?

Just rename it within LW or go to LW's downld folder & type in a new name .. anything .. just want to find if this is the problem 1st. Replace all the original text & with something short. I presume you finished downlding it.

i didn't finish downloading yet... it's when I'm trying to preview the download to check it's working.
I've always used Kazaa before but it seems to be much slower the Limewire.
If I cant preview a download does that necessarily mean that once it's completed I will be unable to open it?

Don't know. Some apps don't play incomplete files very well. Um ... you might be able rename it from LW. Just rename it from the downld list or incomplete folder. Which app are you using to play it?
