HELP, 0kb/s download rate

I'm having problem downloading. My download rate is 0kb/s. While my upload can be up to 20kb/s. I'm downloading a very popular file. From about 300 hosts. Yet, My download starts at 1 kb/s then stops at 0 kb/s. I opened my firewall. I'm very sure i'm not behind firewall. I tried reinstalling limewire. I'm using the latest version 4.8.1. That does't quite fixed it. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

Anyone whos having the same problem or knows how to solve it, plz email me at

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

See: search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

LotR, I tried all of the solutions. I even tried deleting the .limewire folder. But it just became slower than ever, now its 1 kb per download, and im sharing 600 files.

Lord of the Rings April 22nd, 2005 09:59 AM

Are you downlding off other LW users or is it Shareraza (Raza) clients or others. Raza is known to be very slow!

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

3. 256 of ram
4. 10 gigs of free space
5. using dsl broadband. My max dl speed is around 100kb/s
6 using ZTE ZXDSL 831 modem, i use bridge mode to connect(use windows to connect), not router mode, i i dont need to forward the ports/
7. i connect from home
8. My LW version is 4.8.1 basic. Java is 1.4.2
9. I'm from Malaysia. my isp provider is Streamyx. i had a fren who is also using the same isp provider. He doesn't have any problem downloading.
10. this is a new problem with an experienced user.

syyang85 April 22nd, 2005 10:22 AM

oh ya, i also tried deleting LW Preferences folder. No luck with that. Can't fix it

Myros April 22nd, 2005 02:22 PM

1. WinXP
2. Windows Firewall, and its off too.
3. 256 MB RAM
4. 17 GB free space
5.Using ADSL, 512KBs
6 Using an AZTech USB Modem. No router

Hmmm just a thought

In winXP start>control panel>network connections --- highlight the connection ---- under network tasks click repair this connection.

That will repair the connection, and may allow you to connect and d/l

keep us informed

Myros April 22nd, 2005 02:41 PM

I dont have a "Repair the connection" Option... :(

Are you trying to repair the proper network connection

Myros April 22nd, 2005 03:33 PM

I dont have that in mine.

syyang85 April 22nd, 2005 06:49 PM

Done that, repaired the connection but still no improvement. I'm d/ling a very popular file. Eg: 50 cent - candy shop, with around 300 host. I'm still getting 0kb/s or 1 kb/s. I'm sharing around 2500 files. Many people are downloading from me. Sigh, what is happening to me.....Oh ya, just a question. Do i need to upload more, to download more? just like bittorrent? I had an experiment with my fren. We both have 1024 kb/s connection. We started to download the same file which had a abt 300 hosts. His transfer rate started at around 30kb/s while mine starts at 1kb/s then gradually change to 0kb/s. Sigh...

fabion April 22nd, 2005 08:48 PM

Hi Myros

You may need to do a port forwarding. http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

You can find your modem in the list. Just follow the instructions.

Hi syyang85

you can also find your modem in that link also, try forwarding a port.

Also In LW tools>options>advanced>firewall configurtion --- select manual port forward --- click apply then okay

syyang85 April 22nd, 2005 09:49 PM

Hi fabion,

I'm using bridge mode to dial( i use windows to dial). Not router mode. So, i do not need to forward my ports. As a proof, I have high download rate from my bittorrents. Hmmhh, anyway just in case. i tried it. But still no luck. Thanks anyway.:)

Lord of the Rings April 22nd, 2005 10:33 PM

If you do ok downlding using bittorrents I presume people have no difficulty uplding from you?

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False?

I wonder if your bridge mode should use UPnP or Manual port forward in LW's firewall settings.

syyang85 April 23rd, 2005 04:18 AM

Recieved incoming this session is true.
i'm using Upnp. sigh~
i used to have fast download rate....
Then dunno wat happened...my download rate slows down

Myros April 23rd, 2005 12:01 PM

Oh well, my modem was not on that site. its AzTech DSL206U.

Well, guess I'll go back to Ares Lite. it d/ls at a total of 10-15kbs, still better than limewire. The only reason why I want to use Limewire is because of its availability of Users.

Myros April 24th, 2005 05:47 AM

Okay sheep, I'll gladly cross you.

dyingtolive April 26th, 2005 09:57 AM

If you used to D/L at a speed more than 10k/b and suddenly it dropped to 0k/b here is what i did and poof my D/L speed is back!

Go Tools,Options Bug Reports:Check if, Received incoming this session: true or false? if true no problem, if false you may have a firewall blocking.

Next Tools,Option, Advanced, Firewall Config: Put 80 in the listen on port instead of 6346. Next Use Manual Port Fowarding and enter 80.

Next Hit Connect!

DONE!

syyang85 April 26th, 2005 01:38 PM

Omg thank you very very much~~ It totally works~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~thank you~~

dyingtolive April 26th, 2005 05:47 PM

it worked right probably there's something wrong with port 6346 or your isp blocked it. if port 80 fails you still have port 8080. your isp can't block port 80 as if so you can't surf the net

syyang85 April 26th, 2005 08:51 PM

but how about UDP?

dyingtolive April 27th, 2005 01:32 AM

i just left it alone. if it does not work try port 80 too.

PLT April 27th, 2005 10:15 AM

May I suggest you try another program? I have LimeWire Pro and it hardly ever finds what I am looking for - and then can't download it due to lack of resources.

If you do a test on a well known download with LimeWire and, say, eMule you will see what I mean.

OK, so LimeWire *can* be faster but its search results and resources are severely limited compared with other programs on the market.

Peter T.

Myros April 27th, 2005 01:56 PM

Ummm actually, Limewire's searches often has many hosts avilable. I did not try Emule so I wont comment.

Maybe you should try sharing. Some people disallow free-loaders to download from 'em.
