can't download please help
 

I've have no problem connecting to Gnutella network, its even turbo charge sometimes. I've configured all the firewall settings, including windows xp sp2, norton and set my router to UPnP. But i can't download the fileds, the download rate is 0kbps, and there's no incoming connection but only outgoing connection. I dont know whats wrong , please help

You have both Win XP & Norton firewalls? This is not recommended b/c XP firewall can interfere with Norton IS. Another post just yesterday showed this up. Norton also recommends against it.

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False? If false then you have a firewall issue.

Not a good idea to run 2 p2p apps simultaneously. Peerless who is an experienced LW & bittorrent user says Bittorent is a bandwidth hog & steals all the bandwidth from LW so they can't work together. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=%2Atorrent%2A

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

thanks for the fast reply, i ran the test and it says receives incoming : true.
i've tried running LW alone without any other p2p running at the same time, but the download rate is not improving . seems that it has no impact at all.

Make a note of all your settings & try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

When you used LW without BT running was that a case of closing BT or opening LW when BT was closed. I'd suggest the latter.

If you have search results available & you speed drops to 1 or 2 KB/s then you can stop the downld & reselect it from the search results to downld. This can sometimes refresh the downld speed. Also doing another search for the topic.


Other thought is your isp is targeting LW thru using some kind of program filter which detects LW & reduces the speeds available. Sounds odd I know but it happens & they do it or many isp providers are starting to use various techniques now.

If you used to D/L at a speed more than 10k/b and suddenly it dropped to 0k/b here is what i did and poof my D/L speed is back!

Open Limewire. do not connect to limewire first.

Go Tools,Options Bug Reports:Check if, Received incoming this session: true or false? if true no problem, if false you may have a firewall blocking.

Next Tools,Option, Advanced, Firewall Config: Put 80 in the listen on port instead of 6346. Next Use Manual Port Fowarding and enter 80.

Next Hit Connect!

DONE!

By the way, port 80 is your browser port. It's a http port. If it improves things then it suggests your isp provider is secretly filtering your LW.

yes i know it works for most users. i dun see why i should delete my pref folder cause it doesn't help. anyway most of your threads don't seem to help

and just what are the users supposed to do if they want to browse the internet, and they can't because LW is using that port.

Doesn't take a rockect scientist to figure that one out.

And I for one believe LOTR has helped more members and guests than you have. and definately with better suggestions.
