Waiting in line -- multiple hosts ?? Hi ! I'm using LW 4.1.8 I was downloading a file while I was put "in line - position 1" at 75% progress.. Seeing that I haven't moved for more than one hour, I refreshed the search window and found that there were 4 hosts for the file I was downloading. Putting the mouse pointer over the "Location" colum, I verified that they were from 4 different IP adresses. My question : is that normal to be put "in line" with one host while there are others availiable ? Won't LW try the other hosts ? Is there a way to force LW resume the dl with the other hosts ? TIA ! |
Try this... Do a right-click, FORCE RESUME? Try doing another search. Also, try different keywords... Sometimes you find different, faster hosts, and then your speed will improve immediately. I've noticed that happens. Who is your ISP? Check with your ISP and ask if they are throttling your bandwidth for TCP or UDP traffic on port 6346. DL speeds depend mostly on the hosts at the other end... if the hosts get too busy, they slow you down to a crawl. Sometimes SEARCH finds the host, but DL will not connect... for various reasons. |
Thanks GeoFan, I did try "force resume" as well as "repeat search" a couple of times (not too often) without any result. I have been successful so far to get another 2% of the file, but it is very slow; after a couple of minutes at 8Kb/s I fall back "Waiting in line, position 1". It took 7 hours to get the last 2%. My ISP doesn't have any port restriction. I tried new seraches with different keywords and found the file (with the folder icon in the "quality" column showing that it's the one I'm downloading), but I'm still "Waiting in line". I just noticed one thing: I did a "browse host" in my result window and it's IP doesn't match any of the 4 hosts IP found in the search window. This sounds odd to me.. Since I can browse this host, I suppose I can conclude that he is online !? Finally, looking at the ports reported in the location colums, I found that the 4 hosts aren't all using the same port -- 1492, 3406, 34674, 6346. Can that explain why I do not access the files from these hosts ?? Is there anything I can do then ?? Thanks again ! |
