unable to connect with peers.

uhhh first of all i registered but i haven't gotten the confirmation email yet. once i do, i'll be logged in as blujeankitty. any replies as blujeankitty are still me. :D

1. windows XP.
2. i have a mcafee firewall, which is disabled (Received incoming this session: true
)
3. 2.39 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.
4. one hard drive (c:\), total disk space is 34.4 GB, free disk space is 13.3 GB.
5. connecting using AOL for broadband 9.0 optimized (cable connection)
6. router is 2.4 GHz 802.11b linksys wireless access point router, i'm not sure about the modem, but it's roughly an inch thick & five inches wide, black, with upside-down triangles as lights that just love to blink :p they are both in proper working order, i can connect to practically anything (instant message servers, websites, AOL, etc, but there's trouble connecting to some sites that use java like {don't laugh} runescape.com)
7. connecting from my home.
8. limewire client 4.8.1 pro, java 1.5.0_02.
9. america online.
10. bug test claims received incoming this session is true.
11. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml followed these instructions completely & accurately.

my problem:

my quality claims to be turbocharged with all five bars filled & a bright teal color. i can search & successfully locate hundreds of files that match my query, most are four stars & many of them have tons of users downloading.
i've begun many downloads from four star users with numbers anywhere from 50 to 100 & sometimes more (but also sometimes less) & every time, the download refuses to connect to any of those alleged "50 users". i have SEVERAL downloads right now, possibly up to twenty, & only a few of them have even reached percentages above 50 since i started the download days ago. only about three or four are downloading, saying "downloading from 1 host", speed is either 0 or 1 KB/s, & the time estimates at least two hours (for an average sized mp3 file)

i know it's not limewire's fault because at my boyfriend's house, it takes him less than a minute to complete a mp3 download. but there's something wrong with my computer, or connection, or something; but it's getting rather frustrating.

i'm here in hopes that this can be fixed.

thank you all! <3

TOTALLY DID NOT MEAN TO POST THIS HERE.

WOAH moderators, please move it.

If for example you get 100 results in your search, you will never downld from all of them. Simple fact of life. Some will not be properly configured such as with firewalls, some won't have any available upld slots or bandwidth for you to connect to, some may be 3rd party clients that are always difficult to connect to. An example of a slow one to connect to is Shareaza (Raza) which most of the time only offer 0.2 to 2 KB/s b/c they're using their upld on a different network.

Sometimes re-searching the topic again can help, & even stopping the downld & reselecting from the search results. This sometimes re-vitalises the downld.

Make sure you have sufficient downld slots & bandwidth set in your LW settings. Remember the bandwidth's going to be divided between your downlds.

If you don't have LW pro & you're getting Turbo status then you're probably set up quite well. Have a look at the stickies at the top of this section. Murasame's thread may be helpful.

(Let's hope the problem is not your ISP provider filtering your LW!)

so i did a little experiment.

i searched for a song & it came up with like 100 or so results. i selected EVERY one & started to download.

the highest any of them have gone is about three percent. limewire's been running for hours since then.

Well keep in mind these: autogenerated spam results & T3 Spammers; mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes
Perhaps you should try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Some other points:
Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

Set both uplds & downlds to autoclear.

Also don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

By the way if you wish to do a test send me a pm. But you must be a member to send a pm. ;) :)

If you're refering to the forum site membership then check your junkmail just in case. If you're refering to LW pro then make sure you pay no more than US $18.80 by getting it here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

i use outlook express. there is no folder with that email in it. & i went to sign up again & i used the same email as i did before & it said "sorry this email is in use". then i went to retreive password & it claims it sent the pass to my email. i have neither of these emails. -_-

there ya go.

So you're refering to forum membership. Yep it can be a hassle. Happened to me at start of year. lol :D

Recheck again, it might be delayed before you receive it. By the way if you use maximum filters on your email then perhaps it's being blocked from being sent to you. The address is Gnutella Forums Mailer <forums@gnutelliums.com>

Actually I've just realised, the server for this site went down over a week ago & I suspect it's running on a backup system. Nobody has been receiving notifications from the forum about posts on the forum. Go to Site Feedback section of the forum & you'll see a thread about this issue. Feel free to add to it or create your own thread in that section to explain your scenario. ;) :)

Big Problems Connecting

I've followed the instructions for resolving connection problems as best I can. I've reinstalled Limewire (4.12.11), Java and reset the Norton security and Windows firewall settings. Before these problems started, I used Limewire without any glitches. Please can someone advise any further action?
