Slow downloads, and Very few results

i just bought a new computer (compaq, winXP, cable modem) and got limewire basic again (it worked beautifully before for many months until my computer irrepairably crashed in March, i just bought this new one saturday). i have a turbocharged connection but when i search i either get no or very few results and when i try downloading, it will say i'm downloading from 4 or 5 hosts but at 0/kps and says 25:00:00 or something like that.

example: search- Bright Eyes results-61

i've turned off firewall, i've checked port, i have tried adjusting download % in options, i deleted .limewired file and reset it, i've tried everthing i know to do.... it's been like this for 4 days...

Please help

Exactly the same

I got Limewire Pro, broadband connection and a max Kb/s of 4!!!

I think Limewire should change their tagline from 'Faster than Kazaa'..... to 'Turbocharged Broadband...yet slower than a Kazaa dial up!!!'

Theres loads of techy-types offering completely unrelated promotional blurbs but I am yet to see an explanation, a remedy or a time related suggestion/viable alternative

Debating

I'm thinking of going back to Kazaa for a little while. These slow downloads and minimal searches lately just sucks dung. Limewire should either fix this issue or post something to ease the tension from us small-time users.

here we are again...

Lol MrGrover i see u again... yep same problem with mine... 0 kb/s downloads even thought it displays downloading from a few hosts... I really think it has something to do with this Java platform thingy... I installed it after reformatting my computer and voila... Limewire has completely gone nuts...Lol...Any admin who has any views or solutions pls help... Thx...

jev114_how June 2nd, 2005 10:47 PM

Um guys... Is this the right java thingy to install to run limewire?--> Java Web Start Version 1.42_08(build b03)? Cos i have a feeling its not lol... I know for a fact that when u install limewire, Java would be automatically installed...However during my installation, it hung and i installed the Java platform manually...So could I have installed the wrong Java platform?

slow downloads

i also have slow download speeds of less than 5kb/s despite running on broadband! i went to my friend's hosue recently and was so jealous to see he was getting speeds of 40 plus kb/s on Limewire too...

argh...what should i do? I already allowed the port that limewire listens to under the configuration of windows xp firewall...what else should i do?

is there no one out there that has any advice for us...please...
is this a problem that the whole limewire community is having or is it just a few of us having the very same problem...i have had virtually no improvement all week (last night i had like two songs download at 2 - 3/kbs, but after that it's back to 5 or 6 hosts at 0/kbs)...someone mentioned that it might be because of the new java...if that's so, how can we get the older version??? i am open to any suggestions.

solution

Hey Guys!
I felt your pain only a few days ago! There is a solution, but it will take some time and some reading as there are no quick answers here. The thread I have attached is rather lengthy, but after reading it ALL, my downloads went from a 0Kb-4Kb to 30Kb-80Kb almost instantly! Basically it boils down to setting up your upload/download bandwidth properly to suit your computer. I didn't know a kilobite from a bug bite until I read the thread. I assure you, most of you are explaining the same issues I had, just take the time and educate yourself. I wish you all luck!

lenerdosy June 4th, 2005 07:36 AM

will that work for macs?

padraic June 5th, 2005 12:14 AM

thanks mjagr26 for the advice. i'm not very computer savy but i tried the instructions. i don't know the speed of my cable connection(i'm stupid, i know), but in the control panel under network and internet connections it says 100.0 Mbps,...that can't be right, can it??? the download meter only goes to 43KB/s, but i have tried adjusting the meter completely up and down the spectrum and adjusted the # of downloads(3-20), i have turned the sharing off, after i have adjust the upload meter up and down(i have never had anyone upload from me, i only have like 12 songs). i am still only getting 1KB/s from 6 hosts. i checked my isp and it is fine. firewall is fine. port is fine.

can someone tell me what i am doing wrong????
has anyone else followed the steps to no avail???

i will honestly give whoever can help me $$$20$$$
I SWEAR ON MY LIFE

(i know it's not much but i don't have a whole lot right now)

leogeo June 5th, 2005 08:22 AM

if i am using win xp firewall, do i have to forward any ports?

MJagr26 June 5th, 2005 06:36 PM

Go to PCpitstop.com and it will tell you what your download and upload bandwidth is.

I had to list Limewire as an exception on my xp firewall in order to get it working properly.

Good Luck

Michael
