i really need help with limewire

Okay so whenever i type in a song in Linewire no songs pop up. No matter what song or Artist i type in no songs show. It will search for them but after that nothing happens.

What is your connection status? All green / blue, poor, fair, excellent, turbo? Is it consistent?

rustysurfer11 June 13th, 2005 06:16 PM

it is all blue

Fury29 June 13th, 2005 06:19 PM

Any filters in place that could be effecting it? Also try downloading a file from Magnetmix, see if it comes through.

Well see I can only open Limewire if my ipod is plugged into the computer but for the last two weeks my ipod has been broken so I took it in today and they gave me a new one, and once i plugged my new ipod into the computer Limewire didn't reconize the ipod so i redownloaded it. And thats when it started having problems. So I think its something with the ipod but I'm not sure. I did download songs from Magnetmix and they came through.

I'm (& probably Fury29 also) finding your problem a bit confusing. I don't understand why you'd have the iPod connected whilst you're using Limewire (LW.)

I have a suspicion you're refering to the LW playlist that shows up. Are you using Windows or Mac?

The normal way of doing things with iPod is:

1. Download the songs using LW.

2. Add these songs to iTunes. (if you use mac these songs can be added automatically. In windows, although the LW playlist shows up in iTunes, the songs don't exist within the iTunes Music Library. Songs must exist within iTunes Music Library before you can add them to your iPod!!! Otherwise you're only adding a playlist but leaving the actual songs on the computer. So that playlist won't work unless it's connected to the computer.) See Adding songs to iTunes & iPod (click on this link.)

3. Connect your iPod & update the playlist. You can update the iPod manually or automatically. I would recommend manually, otherwise iPod will erase its playlist & replace it with what you have on your iTunes. See the link I gave above about links to an iPod tutorial which shows how to do this. There's also a link to an iTunes tutorial & an iPod/iTunes forum.

* (Remember a playlist is simply a file with a list of names of the songs which points to the location of the songs. If the songs are moved from their original location or the playlist is moved to another device without the accompanying songs then the playlist won't work. Updating your iPod copies both the playlist & the songs to your iPod!)

If this answers your question or only part of your problem then please tell us so we can try to solve the other part to the problem. ;) :)

I'm using a Mac. I'm not tlaking about the playlist, and I cant download songs. When I search for songs no songs pop up, it doesn't find any songs no matter what song I type in.

A. Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then there's something at least partially blocking LW's access to the gnutella network.

B. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. Mac OS version?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Some hints:

* After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

* Try the Any Type search type to see if you get any results. Try a common artist like beatles or Let it Be. Tell us how you go. Also try downlding any of the following videos from the following magnet site & see if you can downld them at least partially. Just click on their downld link: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Try the cats video at bottom of page.

* A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.
