WTF is up with the switching of download speeds?

Why is it that time after time I get switched from the fast connection I select and end up with a slow as F modem connection?
This sucks. Why can't I get the host I want to download from????
This has happened far more than not. It's no wonder I can't get any speed with my fast connection. Who's running this circus anyway. I paid my 18.99 for this stupid program and am not getting what I was promised!!!!

Lord of the Rings June 28th, 2005 03:49 AM

Nice way to ask!

Gooddoggy June 28th, 2005 05:26 PM

Yes that's the way i ask when I wonder just what's coming off here. I have been loking for some time as to why my speeds are so slow and to date no real answer thatmade any differance was given. I have seen many post that either were answered inadaquatly or not answered at all as to why this happens.
I just happen to browse a host and to my surprise a modem connection is switched for the fast host i chose. I payed for this program just so i have the right to complain about this problem as no one really seemed to want to answer it. I followed the streps suggested to no avail.
When will the truth be told?

REVOLUTION! REVOLUTION!

If you bought LW Pro then talk to LW customer support. This forum is independent of the LW org. This is a forum & we are volunteers. FYI I do know the LW policy is try before you buy. There's a free version to try out to sort out any small problems if there's any, before considering buying pro.

Have a look at To continue files downlding (click on link) & see all the off-shoot links, such as those about optimising & see other tips & skills of using LW. I hope they can be of help to you. Sources is what you've complained about. Finding & managing sources is a part of the skill of using LW. The LW search function can help you find more sources remembering people go on & offline all the time, & free slots become available from time to time for the high speed users who upld. Some of these high speed users may have a very large no. of upld slots so their bandwidth gets shared around & ends up some users actually get smaller speeds to downld from. And some high speed uplders are miserly in what they offer for upld bandwidth or open slots. If they don't have any slots open then you're put into the busy position or just won't connect with them. This also applies to browsing.

If you think the forum is a circus then here ends my help. We or I don't have to offer suggestions to anyone. I try to help that's all.

Gooddoggy June 28th, 2005 09:38 PM

Wasn't trying to offend. The Forums not the Circus.

Didn't mean to offend you all. I was talking about Limewire not you when saying this is a circus. Didn;t know you weren't Limewire.
Thanks for trying though.
The problem is a real concern because 19 out of twenty downloads are directed to modem host instead of fast connection I selected. I have writen Limewire but as yet no reply except to tell me that it has been given to their staff. I would appreciate your input on this as i am new to this buisness of p2p.
Thank you Lord for trying to help!!!

If you really don't like modem connections & don't want anything to do with them, I think you can filter them out. I don't have LW on this comp as my other one is in service at present. I can't remember where to find that option. Probably in the Tools>Options>Downlds part.

Why you should get stuck with modem everytime you browse or select to downld, I'm not sure. I'd like to say it's just poor luck, but since it happens so often for you. I haven't experienced this & I tend to browse a lot. When I started with LW (v.2), you could separate sources. But you can't anymore. I can only suggest to search more, browse & browse those browse results that have multiple results. Then you might find better/faster sources. And also downld from multiple sources.

Keep in mind that there's also some other clients out there such as Shareaza (RAZA) which have a tendency to only offer 0.1 to 3 KB/s. This is due to them using their uplds for another network where they can only downld as fast as they can upld.

Gooddoggy June 28th, 2005 10:31 PM

Appreciate my Lord. What do you use as i'll bet it has a lot more luck than mine. If Limewire doesn't answer me soon I'm going to ask for my money back!!!

Thank you Lord, Amen

I'm using LW beta on a mac. My speeds are not super b/c I'm at the bottom end of adsl. But it keeps me happy. lol :D
I tend to browse a lot & also use direct connect. I may keep a note of those ip's where they have a lot of files I'm interested in. (Only a problem if they use a dynamic ip.) So I'll DC with them when I want my files to continue or to downld more from them.

Gooddoggy June 29th, 2005 12:06 AM

Thank you my Lord.

Good suggestions. I will try them. Funny though how all of a sudden I can't seem to get any stinking conections. Funny how it works or doesn't.

By for now. Amen!!!

Wot....no revolution? Bugger!

Gooddoggy June 29th, 2005 05:06 PM

Very easy actually. As I stated when you have selected the download browse the host after the download has started.

Gooddoggy July 3rd, 2005 06:10 PM

Selected host said T1. Download came from modem when browsed.

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2005 06:30 PM

Browsing is a little different. I don't think filters apply to browsing. But you can go to Tools>Options>Searching>Speed & select # or higher. Some people select the incorrect connection type when they set up their LW. Perhaps it's to stop them being filtered out or just a mistake out of ignorance. I use DSL but I set my connection type of modem.

Gooddoggy July 3rd, 2005 08:11 PM

How come Lord? Also concidering how dead slow the downloads are I have no trouble believing it is coming from a modem. 1or2 kilibits!!!

Lord of the Rings July 3rd, 2005 08:16 PM

It could be that they have their upld bandwidth shared among a large no. of uplders. It could be 10, 20 or 50+, etc. In which case the amount left over or shared between is small. Else they're a bit miserly with their upld bandwidth offering.

not sure if this is the way to ask about something from an old post but....

in the above you stated that you were at the bottom end of adsl...if you have the time, could you further expand on that...have been on LW for about 3 years and adsl the whole time...have the opportunity to upgrade to an enhanced adsl (2.5 vs 1.5) but this is the first time I have seen someone downslight the adsl as a factor with limewire....i am considering it basically because of my Downloading.
