help with my specific problem

well, maybs other people have the same problem. when i had bearshare, i could always leave my firewall on and my downloads would be finished in literally seconds. then, it all went away. bearshare now cannot connect, so i went to limewire. i turned off my firewall as suggested, but im now dl'ing files at absolute MAX 50kb/s. also, the number of sources is only at around 6 max. although this is really frustrating, i can live with it. but, the biggest problem i have is that it will just go at 0kb/s so i have to pause, and start the dl so that it will finish. can anyone please help me?

Don't have no active firewall! That's silly & risky! Instead you should configure it. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

If you have 2 firewalls then disable XP firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.)

The problem is generally the sources. They can be unreliable. But then on the odd occasion, LW itself seems to stall momentarily. That's why it can be an idea to try out the tricks such as cancelling the downld & reselecting from the search results, etc.

See all the off-shoot links to catch up on hints & skills for using LW here: To continue files downlding (click on link)

It could be your isp provider yes. Some apply filters to slow down p2p sharing b/c it uses so much bandwidth. I think isp's that do that are sneaky since they are limiting your services without your knowledge or approval.

You could try downlding a magnet link from here to see if you get good speeds: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & to see an example of what speeds you can get see Stief's example here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...692#post138692

alright, now we're cooking. when i dl'ed a file they had on their movies main page, it started limewire just as it mentioned in the faq, and dl'ed at speeds from 160kb/s-220 kb/s. the problem is that can this only work with files on that site? because then wouldn't i be working with a limited selection? im sure there's more to it, but i just dont understand it.
