Can't play downloaded mp3s.

For some reason, I can't open mp3s on my mac after they are completely downloaded. When I double click on them it just takes me to the Limewire program if it is open. However, if I stop the download half way through it does play on a mp3 player. Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone fixed it? Help, please! Thanks!

Can't listen to my MP3s either!!!

I'm having that problem too, but I can't even listen to them half-way through. I'm being told that my downloads are "Limewire Documents" and they will not play, even though when I selected them to download, they were listed as MP3 files. I have only had this problem since I upgraded two days ago. Only about one out of five or six files that I download will play for me. Any ideas? **EDIT EMAIL ADDRESS**

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem until I realised what was going on.

Amongst other things, files on our Mac's must contain two important pieces of information to enable the finder to open them with the correct application, these are the file type and creator type. When you download over the internet you don't know if the machine that the file is coming from is another mac or a pc. So it's just luck if you get the correct file and creator types, that's why some downloads play and others don't.

One solution to the problem is to download and use the AppleScript "YA MP3 File Converter (1.2.1)" to correct the file and creator types. Download at:-

http://nordcom.mac.tucows.com/preview/206604.html

This is my local mirror site of http://www.tucows.com

After downloading and expanding on you desktop, double click to run the script and choose which mp3 player to set the files for. Now you're ready to start converting, make sure that your filenames provisionally end in .mp3 and then drag them onto the script. After conversion they re-appear at their orignal location with the correct mp3 player icon ready for use. Now you can rename them if you wish to get rid of that stupid Windows ending.

Hope this helps,

Tony.

limewire documents

I use quicktime to play MP3 and MPEG. Most of the time I get a limewire document which just goes to the limewire window if it is open. However, if I put .mp3 or .mpg at the end of the file's name, it works...so far.

*.sit file downloaded as limewire

I have a similar problem except I have *sit files that will not open since they are recoreded as limewire documents. Is there a similar solution as for mp3s?

thanks

Open with stuffit directly

I open stuff it directly and then expand the file through the program, rather than double clicking on the sit document. i open MP3 either by converting them through macamp or if you're running OS 9 you can use itunes.:)

*sit file downloaded as limewire document

Thank you for the suggestion. However it did not work (did you use stuffit deluxe? i used stuffit expander).

Any other ideas as to convert a "limewire document" back into "*.sit".

thx
