file corruption
 

Has anyone else been having trouble downloading files they have in the past with no problem and receiving a 'file corrupted' message? I have.
The behavior is odd. I've downloaded these files quite often with no problem. Now with almost every file I download I get that error message. If there is someone out there with information on what this problem is and how to remedy it, please let me know. Thank you very much!

Corrupt files can be due to various reasons.
1. The file is corrupt at it's source.
2. There's been data lossed during transfer so LW will attempt to redownld the missing bits.
3. The hashtree has changed from the moment you started to the moment you finished downlding. (Hash Tree explained: 1. No. 1, & No.2)
4. You have firewall or anti-virus programs affecting the downlds.
5. For audio files see T3 Spammers; mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes

I am getting the feeling that some very recent audio files may have something built into them to stop p2p sharing. I do not as a rule downoad these but I know a man who does! either that or the spammers are getting cleverer.

Not an answer - but in the same vein - I am getting a trojan.win32.crypte.e virus (fortunately detected) when trying to download dreamweaver - it seem to be on all sources! How can all sources have the same bug??

Aha - Now I see a connection - the file size is 765.5 Mb!! That is a "magic:" number ?

I am having the same problem with "corrupted files".... every song i try to download is corrupted for some reason.

It sounds like it. See WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! But you're confusing KB with MB.

In regards to my point 4 above, there had been reports of at least one av program corrupting the downlds.

somedude see point 5 above. The reasons are due to this: Most Popular Songs R' Corrupt The link I gave in point 5 above is a method of detecting such files. But it does mean good comparative & observational skills.
