no licenses?

I have a problem, whenever I try to download something, it says "Limewire cannot find a license for this file. Download anyway?" I don't know what that means, is it bad or does it mean nothing? I don't know, someone help please .. thanks

A licence refers to an item that is copyright. If it is copyright then the risk & onus is on you if you decide to downld it. If it has no licence then you should be safe.

So it's okay if I download something if it has no license? 'Cause I got worried, heh.

my friend he recamended limewire said it was illegal to download music that when u tried 2 download it it said limewire cannot find a licence download anyway plez tell me i dont wanna do any thing illegal

ultracross August 3rd, 2005 04:59 PM

it is illegal to download copyrighted material without the written authorization of the copyright owner. however, i dont give a damn, but thats me! :p

(i currently have acquired and soon will be sharing 10,000+ mp3's and i just got a new harddrive with more capacity (300GB), so it doesnt seem like im going to stop anytime soon.) along with my new hard drive, (hehe) i have a warranty on my old one (120GB) and im getting that one replaced by warranty. so im going to have a total of 420GB available as a gnuttella servent :)!

but what ever your decision is, LimeWire LLC cannot be held liable for your actions because they cannot control the network. they just write software to connect to the network.

music_4_me August 3rd, 2005 05:04 PM

but this is the old 4. some crap is it still?

music_4_me August 3rd, 2005 05:05 PM

Some License Problems

Some of the Video's we have been Downloading,Bring up a Window when Windows Media Player is Opened.
One says it Needs to "Acquire License" from a Window with the header "License Aquisition".
This leads to a "Install" Button to Click,With the Warning that it May be Harmfull to your Computer.
I tried it but it seemed to Hang.
I have a Download Speed of 2.2kbps.
The Second Window to Open on another Windows Media Player File ,Opened a Window that stated that it was a "Security Upgrade" and "Click Okay to upgrade your DRM Components".
A third on another Windows Media Player said we needed a License and it had the site " www.pluginprovider.com " as the Source of the Componet. Also that we might have to register or pay.
Has anybody seen these.
Are they Safe or should I just Delete them.

If they are Harmful ,What do they do

I have found that after downloading movie files that have the extension WMV and opening them in Windows Media Player I also
get this error. I have to delete them and continue searching for
the file with a different extension such as AVI or Mpeg. That way I
know that if it won't work in wmp it will work in others such as
VLC .:D

A little more info

Thanks Fatman
How do you do a Seach for the File without the WMV Extension.
Would it not have come up in the first Search with the other extensions AVI or Mpeg.If they were available.
Or are you more specific in your search,For Example look for Banned Commercial Cola Hazard with the AVI or MpEG extension added in the Search Parameter's.
Looking like this ,
Banned Commercial Cola Hazard AVI = Search
OR
Banned Commercial Cola Hazard MPEG = Search
Its a Pity Limewire cannot tell you at the Start that a License is Required

ultracross August 4th, 2005 09:18 PM

you can add filters to your searches:

to filter out wma and wmv files, add them to your list.

tools > options > filters > keywords
type ".wmv" (without quotes) click add
type ".wma" (without quotes) click add
now press ok.
done!

some more formats you may want to filter is .rm .ram .ra since these are usually just very poor quality files.

but LimeWire does require ANY license to download ANYTHING. its only there to keep limewire from being sued out of existence because of the "copyright inducement"

damn, dont users READ anything these days?

Ultracross Misunderstanding Sorry

Hi Ultracross,
Forgot to Heartily Thank You for the Heads up to the WMV files and Licenses Link on the First Page of this Thread (Last Post Page One)
About the License's ,
What I should have said is, If a Download like the one's with the WMV Extenion need/require a License to work that we have been discussing.
That could lead to Viruses or other Trouble to the End User's Computer. That the Limewire Program could come up with the Warning that this Program Needs to Contact a Third Party Site to Work.
Sorry for not actually saying what I meant.
Also can you Help on another Matter.
If I am able to access and Post/Reply to Topics am I Registered ,Because the Email Notification Does Not work for Me
