Downloading problems

I can connect to Limewire fine and up until I moved into my new dorm i could download fine, but now whenever I select a song to download, it goes to the downloading screen and says "need more sources" or "awaiting sources". It has done this for any song I choose.

Try this...

I've been having the same problem lately and I haven't even changed locations. It seems like the entire network has slowed down. I used to be able to download at 15 KB/s on average, and now I usually get "needs more sources." When it does download, it is usually at 1 KB/s. There's an obvious change in service.

Try entering the title of the song in the search section again. Sometimes I find that if I'm downloading something and it says "needs more sources," if I search for it again, it locates another source. Usually it will only find one or two hosts, so your download might be slow, but it's better than nothing. Hope this helps!

correct, you can also press the "find source" button to make limewire search for more sources too. it might just be alittle less reliable than manually searching though.

@Quijas

some universities and coleges tend to filter/block or throttle p2p activity. try changing ports with limewire to see if that may help. you may need to also take into consideration that the network is VERY dynamic and people log in and out of the network very fast. so what we recommend doing is to download the files you want from as many sources that are possible. so if the file is fairly popular, you will have a better chance of downloading it than if the file only has one or a few sources.

downloads

Hi
I am having exactly the same problems.I have lime wire pro.And i just updated from 4.8.1 to 4.9.All my problems started with the upgrade.
I always searched to make a download restart, and as soon as the download was found it connected again.Well not now.I can see the download in the search with the open folder icon saying it is downloading. But it just says connecting, and then need more sources. How can it when i can see in front of me 50 sources or more ??
Help .
Thanks
Fraggle

I've been having the same problem. It's hard to get a file if only one person has it or if it's really popular. Grandpa1 gave me this explanation and it really helped:

"I guess i am going to have to go into a little more detail in my explanation. OK we will use me as an example now I share around 400 files most of the time when I am at home I leave LimeWire on 24/7 when I am there. But I work in construction therefore I am on the road allot thus LimeWire is off when I am not there.
When I am sharing I allow 10 slots for people to download from me. I have cable and can upload at 45kb so 45/10 = 4.5kb per person. There are always 10 downloading from me and 10 waiting to download from me so that means no one else is going to be able to download from me until someone finishes. Now if there are lets say 1000 people looking for any of the 400 files I am sharing that means your odds of connecting to me are 1 in 1000. With those odds the likelihood that you will ever connect to me is somewhere between slim and none. And if you do you will only get 4.5kb download speed..
(The moral to this story) If you choose files that only have 1 source you are asking for it to take a long time to complete in most cases, if ever, and slow download speeds. Hopefully this will fully answer your question. There are stickies on how to improve your upload and download success with LimeWire if you want to improve your performance with LimeWire read them."

So basically, there's no way to speed up your download (I speak from experience). Just keep searching and eventually it will connect, if only for a short while. My advise is, keep your computer on 24/7, keep searching, and be very patient.
