download speed

hi, it's my first in the forum. i got a 2mb dsl broadband connection and windows xp. i'm using limewire pro 4.9.28. my current d/l speed is only 5kb/s max when d/l films but i remember the1st time i d/l a film was on 30-40 kb/s. any reason for this?

needs help... tnxs

1) you have to rely on the host speed that you're downloading off of, not your own.

2) doesnt matter if you have dsl or cable, if a user limits their bandwidth, you can only download as fast as they allow you too.

3) double check your Limewire settings to see what your bandwidth is set on.

The points Sphinx made are very true. You'll also see this from the following tips: See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

Let's do an experiment! ;) :p Downld a magnet link from this site: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml
To see what speeds you can potentially get from this site see Stief’s example: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...692#post138692

If your speeds are still around the 5-10 KB/s then your ISP provider could be the problem. They might be using a p2p filter/bandwidth shaper. Here's an example of how a bandwidth/traffic shaper works: http://titan.iwu.edu/~it/Policies/ShaperPolicies.html

hi, got your messages..., i'd checked my bandwith it's on 100% setting both d/l & u/l. Tried that "magnetmix.com/video.shtml" but the remark is awaiting sources. what can u say? even when i got seven sources does'nt affect my d/l speed. Is there any thing like this "http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest" here in the uk?

still me

im having the same probelm as Greg10

my internet connection is 2mb. Up to a few days ago my dowbnload speed was just right and was frequently between 150-200kbps. i would always connect to 8, 9 or 10 hosts.
But a few days ago, anything i downloaded, i would still conect to 8, 9 or 10 hosts, but my download speed would always be between 0-10kbps.
My bandwidth is set to maximum, limewire shows my connection as excellent and sometimes even turbocharged but i just cannot see the problem. i even downloaded somehting form the internet to see it wasnt my isp but my download speed was still superfast.
i have to agree with Greg10, theres something wrong going on.
Greg10 email me if you find a solution at ****

there should be a way around this problem. i'd checked with the isp and run a couple of test and it showed an average of 70 - 90 KB/s atleast but mine is still crawling. maybe you can share some more information. i'd tried running a spyware doctor as well. 'til this time that "magnetmix.com/video.shtml" still awaiting sources.

Hey guys there is a couple of things you might try the first is I want you to follow the instructions in the link below on deleting your preference folder. Then if that doesn't work you can try the next link it will take you to the WinMx site download it and see if it works and if you can get better DL speeds. I do not recommend WinMx but it is the only other P2P program that I trust to be totally spyware free.

also check your firewall settings to see if its configed properly. if you are behind firewalls it might be slowing you down or blocking you from downloading. Maybe its just me but I have never griped about speed. If on a MSN or AOL for an ISP they WILL limit your bandwidth and ability to download in P2P all the more reason to switch to broadband connection.
