What is file corruption?

what does it mean when a file is corrupted? does it mean that its just not a complete file or does it mean it has a virus or possibly both??

It is always important to run a virus check on a corrupt file, but many of them are perfectly ok. sometimes I thing they may not be 100% complete as you say, but sometimes they are useless. If you can easily find a replacement get it. On one or two files I have been unable to find replacements I have opened them in iTunes and "converted them to mp3". .. If you have I tunes you will know what I mean, deleted the original and they have come out fine. If they are incomplete I always state that on the files as I wish all sharers would ........please:)

Exactly what Limewire decides is a corrupt file, or why is not clear to me.

Last week I downloaded a song that was apparently corrupted. I ran a virus check and it was clean. I listened to the song and there was nothing wrong with it.:)
