strong connection, poor downloads

I have a very strong connection, my xp firewall is configured to allow ports 6349 and 6346 on tcp and udb. i can download but never over 3kb/s. Can anyone please help me? On tools - options i have tried to listen on ports 80 and others mentioned in these forums, no joy. I was thinking it may have something to do with router by sounds of other threads but can't follow them enough to know what and if i have a router??

You have 2 firewalls. Not wise to run 2 active firewalls as they can interfere with each other. Disable one of them; either disable XP's firewall or McAfee's firewall. For XP: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

See the following link & follow “ALL” the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) But you need to make sure your firewall situation is sorted out 1st, be that a software firewall or a router with a NAT firewall.

I am running xp, the mcafee internet software is only virus/adware spyware protection.

I am using xp firewall and limewire version 4.9.29 java version 1.5_03 limewire has detected it and gives me a strong connection.

Microsoft xp rofessional version 2002 256 mb ram 730 mhz pentium 3.

connecting from home with aol on a modem. as mentioned on original message i have configured ports on xp firewall but it does say false on example bug report.??

I am not sharing computer with anyone.

I don't know about network connections either, when i go there it tells me disconnected when going thru aol browser and internet explorer (connected via dialler rather than aol browser) still says disconnected yet i'm online. So I donm't know if firewall settings i've configured are in use at all, sorry - please help.
