4.9.7 is NOT the latest version so the first question is when and where did you get this from. Is it basic or pro and how much if anything did you pay for it?

Ooops I realize you just replied to your own post ... however I'm intrugued that you say you have 4.9.7 unless that is a typo.

yea i got the basic jst trying it out as a riend recommended it to me. i downloaded limewire few mths ago bt didnt have time to use it.

as for LimeWire 4.9.7 i wrote, when i click on the icon on the desktop and go into the the general tab this is what it says - LimeWire 4.9.7

That's cool. I just hoped you hadn't got a old version from a scam site recently.

Your version should be fine but there is a much more recent one available from www.limewire.com

However, I would advise you to keep your old one hidden away, possibly on disc, if you update, as sometimes a new version can cause problems and normally if you update the old version will be deleted.

Enjoy Limewire :)

Just thought Id let you know, I have lw 4.8.1 I got it a week ago I paid $28.00au for it (that was my 12 months sub for the use of lw). I didnt relise I was scamed until I started reading this forum!
I have tried to contact this company but to no avail, their got little messages stating you cant reply to this email and due to tech difficulties our phone lines are down and you can only access our chat line between office hours, I know Im in Oz but Ive tried day and night their a pack of *****! Now Ive had my spit, I will ask is 4.8.1 old or new?:o

Only A Hobo September 16th, 2005 01:29 AM

wondering why .... bad luck!

4.8.1 is not new.
if you go to http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

you will see it was released 9 Mach 2005 I know... not long ago but in computer development language that's about ten years :D

$28 US is not a huge amount, is it? I don't know the Ex rate but yes there's the principle of the thing!

4.8.1 was, by all reports, an excellent version
HOWEVER >>>>>>> Your copy may have been infected with spyware or something like that and hopefully you will have checked that it is clean in that respect

The new version is 4.9.30 well it was yesterday. :D :D

and, as I imagine you already know, can be obtained from

http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

basic free, pro $US 18.88 with six months free updates and technical support.

I hope this helps

Thanks for replying, It was about $37.00au, and If I look on the positive side I learnt of limewire. I think I'll stick with this version for a while and get used to everthing before I upgrade, I've got pretty good security and I havent ran into any probs as yet.

I would like to ask one more question if I could:
What is the best free dvd burning download I can get, I have sonic already, I've burnt one downloaded movie and the only place I can veiw the disc is on win media player,I also have power cinema(NEC) came with computer, I cant watch it on that either. I get a little confused with all the different formats with the downloads is their just one simple way around these.

Many Thanks:o

burning is something I know nothing about, so if nobody else offers their opinion in a day or two try asking in a new thread. If you search using search button above right for " DVD and Burn " for instance that may help you!

If you upgrade later it is always wise imho to keep a copy safe somewhere, on disc perhaps, in case the new version gives problems. A new install will delete it otherwise.

Best of luck :)
