Corrupt Fiiles? Ha! Too Much Lately, Haven't Seen Answers to These Questions

I've gone through myriad postings dealing with corrupted files, yet I still haven't found a solution that will address my recent experience of a huge number of corrupt file downloads.

I haven't changed any settings on my pooter, other than upgrading to LimeWire pro. I've gone through all the settings to make sure they are as desired, and even narrowed the search as per the stinky "maximizing downloads/uploads".

Has anyone else experienced a large upsurge in corrupt files lately, particularly those sized around 3Mb to 30MB? I have mostly been dealing, in the past, with files from 150MB to 800MB, almost never get corrupt files there, though did in huge numbers a few months ago, as apparently did many others at the same time.

It seems some of my recent downloads which have resulted in a corrupt file have resumed, though due to the large number of selections I've made and the multiplicity of sources, I'm not sure of the causes and methods of this being so, so I'm asking for clarification on a few corrupt file matters here that may help most everyone when answered with clarity and conciseness.

1) Do downloads that result in a 'corrupt file' resume at some time later? If so, is the new resumption built upon that 'corrupt' file or is a new one created?

2) Regardless of original source, can a current host we download from be causative of corrupted files?

3) Some of the recent corrupt files I've received have come from connections that were on a few seconds, then off a long time, on a few seconds then off a long time, on and on many times over days, though they're small files. Could these quick on-off interludes cause file corruption?

4) How should I make sure the sought-after material is found and downloaded at the soonest possible?

5) When I see a download changed to 'file corrupted', what should I do with that file?

Clear and prompt responses are greatly appreciated.

Yah, me too for the pro, though I think a large bulk of the smaller files, like 2MB to 10MB, are particularly from one host, though the notion didn't come to me to check them till many had already been downloaded, many more to come, though.

Both of you .......................

Which version of Limewire were you using and which pro version are you now using?

Hives-itch .. if you have not used Limewire before ... where did you get yours from and how much did it cost.

Using the search function - above right - can be most useful.

Hidy ho, Hobo.

I have 4.9.4 Pro, was using consecutively the latest of the regular version up until I got Pro.

Hi Savvy ... I nearly forgot about you :) I'm not familiar with 4.9.4 it only lasted 4 days back in July and quite a number of changes were made in 4.9.5 if you look at http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

I suppose it is possible that this has a little to do with your question . I'm curious as to why you stopped upgrading when you got pro.

1. If a file is labelled corrupt, it will remain in the incomplete folder until you clear it from the download window. Once it is cleared from both there is nothing to stop you re-downloading the file.

2. I imagine a file can become corrupted at any stage of it's life

3. quite possibly. There sounds like something peculiar about connections coming on and off like that.

4. re-search for the files. try to get ones with different bit rates and or possibly a second or two longer or shorter always assuming you know what the originals were!

5. I'm sure you saw this addressed in your searches, but basically some files have nothing wrong with them. and some contain viruses and others lie some way inbetween.
If I get a popular file that is corrupted I delete it immediately. If it is a rare one, I check it and if it is ok "I convert it to mp3" wih iTunes ... which is not as stupid as it sounds, and I have a perfectly good file.

My answers are based totally on what I can remember of what I have found, and personally I don't come across many "corrupt files". A lot of corrupt files come from T3 sources, but to day I have had an excellnt bunch of downloads from a T3 source so there is a good amount of chance involved along the line.

I hope my meanderings have been of some use

same here

Same here with the free version, message says that the file is corrupt and it does not work. I was thinking of getting pro, but if it don't work, then why?

Corrupted files is a way of life on a P2P network and it has nothing to do with Limewire. That is the users who dont take the time to check their files after they download. This had been addressed a thousand times already an no, there isnt a solution to the problem. Todays users dont know how to encode/decode a file properly. The most popular files get downloaded a lot! and, over a period of time, they do get corrupt. Not much you can do except delete and try another file. I have yet to dl a corrupted song. Then again, Im not downloading the top 40. ;)
