Pro not faster!

I just purchased Pro since the popups on the free version forever hassling me to upgrade were driving me nuts. The popups held the promise that Pro would be so much faster. So far, it still takes hours and hours to download anything. AM I doing something wrong?

Where did you get Pro from and you will need to config your prefs etc. in basic limewire there isnt any popups that I am aware of. And I have basic.

one other question are you on dial up

also, the only place to get the real pro version is: www.limewire.com.

if you can provide a bit more info would be helpful. It shouldnt take hours and hours to download. even on dialup.

I got my pro version from limewire.com, and paid through paypal $18.88 USD. I am on DSL and have a very fast computer (2.16 Ghz, 80GB HD, 448 MB Ram). Here's an example: last night I started a download (Lost Season 2 Episode 2) around 11:00pm. Now it is 6:32am the next day and it is still downloading. Apparently it has another 2 hours to go. <sigh>. Let me know if there is other information I should provide? So far I'm thinking this is a total waste of $18.88.

When I had basic, everytime I started Limewire, I had to click "Later" or "Upgrade" on an initial popup that encouraged me to upgrade to Pro for the speed & to support Limewire for all the programming efforts. THis popup needed to be cleared before I did anything in Limewire. I always clicked Later, but the other day I decided to go for it and hoped it would solve my speed problems.

You still didn't say what your connection speed is do a speed test and post the results here also who is your ISP.

504kbps download speed
144kbps upload speed

are these results a problem? maybe i have a setting wrong in the limewire preferences? when i actually download something from Limewire though, the download speed flucutates around 15kbps (give or take a few). Why so slow compared to my speed test results?

also, maybe having my screensaver on is slowing things down?

Grandpa October 4th, 2005 07:59 PM

Whell from you speed test results your 508kbps/8=63Kb/s so 63Kb/s would be your max download speed. You said you are getting 15kbps are you sure about that LimeWire doesn't measure in kbps it measures in kb/s.

15kbps is less than 2Kb/s that would be very slow Dial-up your ISP may be blocking or filtering P2P networks. You should call and ask them if they are.

Did you config your firewall to work with Limewire?
