i cant figure out these codec things Please help, Ive downloaded movies but now i cant watch them, ive read lots of other forums and ive downloaded gspot (is that what its called?) and found out what codec my windows media player needed, (xvid) and changed the format of my movie to each one individually and still none of them worked. So i downloaded real player, still nothing, i tried numerous other movie players with the same result.. please please help, is there something im missing??? |
VLC (has in-built codecs) is generally reliable for avi & mpg files. VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) However I'm not sure what you meant by you changed the format of each video file. You should be able to play them as they are without file conversions, etc. The codec is simply a translator to help the player read it. If you change their extensions or whatever without proper conversions then probably no player will play them. |
When i downloaded the codec for my media player i didnt know what to do with them so i just 'added' my movie to the list and clicked on next and it said 'what type file do you want to convert it to.. I tried them all and none worked. I dont even know if i downloaded the right codec or if i should have gone into my media player options to get it to notice the codec.. as you can see i know nothing about this..  |
What is the name of the codec? what is the type of file is it? |
its the xvid codec, the file type was AVI |
