ALMOST ALWAYS waiting for a download

I am a new subscriber and get the following messages almost always when trying to download a music file:

- Awaiting Resources

- Need More Sources

- Waiting on Busy Hosts

Is this normal? I only seem to able to downlaod 10% of my requests. Anyone experiencing the same problem or can offer some help?

Thanks

Yep
Same problem here. Every once in a while I find a decent file but I usually have to sit fumbling through files and then babysit the program making sure they connect for almost or more than an hour before the downloads get going. It is aggrivating.

 Hi, I see this post is from almost a year ago and i have searched for others with this problem but have noticed no one is replying. I have the same problem. Every time i download a file, music or video i get "awaiting sources" or "waiting on busy hosts" or "need more sources". This is not only a few files, i have not been able to download anything for months!! it will start for a minute then stop and keep doing the same thing. I have windows xp and LW 4.12.6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:bangh:

First try downloading something from this site:

http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

They are magnetlinks and should open up Limewire and start downloading at high speed (up to 200 KB/s depending on your connection)

If you get slow downloads from there it's either a configuration problem on your end or your ISP at fault.

If you get good speed from there then try reading through this thread:

Howdy
I tried the suggested link above and limewire won't download it, I get the same messages I do as for songs. Should I put the rest of my info in this message or start new one?

Hi

Sleepless...I tried the link and LW is downloading at 0-4kb/s ...my ISP is Source Cable...any suggestions?

Thanks again:confused:

Hi me again  just thought i'd add some info about my setup:
1. OS version? Windows XP Pro
2. What firewalls you have? Windows
3. How much ram? 1GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 207 GB
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Touchstone telephony modem TM502G
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Work
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.13.0, Java 1.5.0_09
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Source Cable
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "Your Test Worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? NO

Hope this is helpful. Thanks.

A. 13 is very good. Previous post magnet test result is very bad! That strongly suggests ISP intervention such as shaping all p2p bandwidth. They have programs that can detect p2p use & then put that use into 2nd tier bandwidth level. Looks like your isp must be severe upon it to be as low as you were getting. Call & speak to one of their technicians & ask why your p2p programs only get a miserly speed compared to browsing! ;)

Grrrrrr

Thanks Lord of the Rings...Unfortunately I called my ISP and they confirmed that they do slow down speeds for P2P programs. GRRRRRR. Is there anything I can do about this besides switching ISP's? I have Bell Sympatico at home and my other ISP told me Bell does not slow P2P speeds...maybe I should just download LW at home? lol

Hmm.. what message do you get for songs? (help us to help you)

@ Lacey. Try to call them back and ask if they could be a little less extreme with the curbing. Be nice when talking to them, yelling will get you on 0 KB/s :D They chance of them allowing full access is very very slim, but they could let you have a bit more speed if you promise to not download 24/7. Always worth a shot.
