Slow downloads on broadband

Hi,

For a while now i've had problems with download speeds on limewire, getting no more than 8kb/s on any downloads. I had a 567Kb connection until yesterday when it was upgraded to a 2Mb connection, so i thought that might make my downloads faster but it didn't :(

I have windows XP home edition
the windows firewall is enabled
896MB of RAM
16.2GB of space available on my hard disk
2MB broadband connection
a netgear router (don't know model)
I am connecting from a home computer which has a network of 3 computers which all use limewire
Limewire version = 4.9.30
Java version = 1.5.0_04
My ISP provider is a local company called Manx Telecom
The 'http://www3.limewire.com:6346/' test works fine for me
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showt...3757#post103757 says 'True'
And on a speed test i have got 1.6 megabits per second

I hope somebody can help me

i am in the exact same situation as i live within a 10minute walk although i have tried a lot of different solutions ive found around these forums with little luck. I've tryed turning my windows firewall off, changing ports IP's etc etc still no luck :(
Although my ISP is manx telecom i connect to the net via tiscali and ive read on these forums that could cause problems but i haven't read any solutions anywhere other than changing isp but im not sure if its the same problem as my isp is actually manx telecom...
HELPPPP PLEASE!!!!:(

You might find it's not your connections...you can only download from a source as fast as the source has set...they may have lowered the upload bandwitdh to stop their own resources from being used up?
I know if i'm downloading a file and someone tries to upload from me,my download time/file transfer rate changes dramaticaly.

well thats what i thought but all of my downloads hardly ever go above 8Kb/s even when there no1 is uploading from me.
Its just frustrating waiting 1 or 2 days for a file that should only take 1 or 2 minutes with a broadband connection.:(

What is your download bandwidth set at? I know that i sometimes have trouble downloading items (not movies or music hardley bother with them),It's varies, from one source it'll download at 1-2kbs and from another it'll download at 30-50kbs
I myself have waited days upon end while a file downloads at 1kbs only to have the source go off line after about 20 mins everytime....OR the worst one...get to 99% and they stop sharing the file and kill the download, believe me this has happened once or twice!

download bandwidth is set at unlimited atm.
