New to Limewire--Downloads are super slow

Hi. I downloaded the free version of Limewire because I was tired of using Ares, but whenever I tried to download anything, the file transfers would go at 0 kbps or 1 kbps, which is messed up because I am on a DSL connection.

SO, I upgraded to LW Pro, but still, all my downloads go at 0-1 kbps. I don't understand what the problem is. I don't like Ares, but it downloads fine (when it wants to) AND I have no problem downloading with mIRC (but I hate the stupid ques).

I'm running on Windows XP, I have opened ports for my firewall like it instructed on the LW main site AND I have LW unblocked on my firewall as well.

I'm really frustrated because I hate Ares and mIRC and was hoping that Limewire would be a good replacement for both. I'm at my wits end here. Can anyone help?

be aware, LimeWire is only for Gnutella network, Ares is multinetwork.

increase your speed in LimeWire option in Speed

That didn't work for me. I've done the bug report and on the "Received incoming this session" line, I got a TRUE and not a false.

I also did a speed test and my dl speed was 1407 kbps, ul speed was 243 kbps. When I connect to LW, my Quality is almost always "TurboCharged".
My computer is brand new as well, so I don't know what the issue is. I'm totally stumped

Could be your isp is filtering p2p networks. You could call and ask them but they might deny it. If that is the reason you could consider switching to a different isp.

Here's a link with more info.

ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

I use Verizon DSL and some have claimed they block it, but others say they can dl with LW just fine .

ukaniko, if verizon isn't blocking your connection, it might just be the hosts being selected for your downloads, since everything else about your setup seems OK.

LW also runs magnetmix.com so see if you download one of these files at better speeds http://www.magnetmix.com/audio2.shtml (it's OK--they are free, legal, and should max out your download bandwidth)

If they don't, call verizon with the results and have them look into your connection.

@ stief,
I didn't know about that. I tried it and it worked really well. Thanks. Downloads were between 140-150KBs

@ ukaniko,
I have Verizon DSL also and my uploads/downloads work fine.

I am having the same issue. I clicked on the above audio file link and my download speed was still only 1kbs. If I use Opera to download a file I am getting speeds of 540kbs on average.

My operating system is Windows xp.

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling LW because it was also freezing up.

I eventually moved it to a new external harddrive with a 2.0 connection. This was due to me running out of harddrive space.

I still am having the same issues. At times when I look at the bottom of the LW control panel I will see false readings that will say something like:

7 downloads 1,5XX kbs

or even higher. I've seen it run as high as 4,000kbs although when I looking into the download section it will show multiple files at speeds all below 100kbs and averaging between 12-42kbs.

I am at my wits end here. I have heard that this is a good program to use for P2P.

Lastly I am using comcast cable.
