Change Incoming path?

How does one change the path used for incoming downloads?

I had a quick shuffle through the settings and couldn't find an option, although there is one for setting the downloaded files path.

You sound like you're refering to a specific program. Which one? This forum caters for many gnutella p2p sharing programs. You should have posted in the specific gnutella program forum section.

Aah my appologies, I was led here from Limewire's homepage ;)

So, I'm using Limewire :)

Yay for the Gnutella Network (hehe).

If you came here via the LW site, then you would have arrived here Limewire Forum sections lol :D

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Saving & you can change the location there.
The default downld location is C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

You can also change location of specific media types to downld to. See How to Change download location (click on link) (specific for folders)

That defines the path for completed files, I want to edit the path for incoming files (stored in C:\Incoming be default).

Then you're refering to the incomplete folder. By default, the incomplete folder is always under the same parent directory as the completed downlds folder (dwnld folder generally called "Shared" or whatever you called it.)
But now with the more recent versions of LW 4.9, you can change the final resting place of the downlds.
Probably you'll need to set up such a directory under C:\Incoming & initially change your downld folder to that location. Then after this, you can change the individual media save locations elsewhere. I've never tried to have them all in a different location (different directory) from the incomplete folder. But you can try it. It'd be nice to know if it works. ;)

Okay, here's my current setup:

Incomplete path: C:\Incoming
Completed path: K:\

This works as-is, and LW isn't saving incompleted files to K: (this would seem to contradict your explanation?).

I notice a C:\Program Files\Limewire\Incomplete folder too, though this has no incompleted files in it. If I remember correctly I set the incompleted path to be C:\Incoming, probably during an initial setup wizard, as this doesn't appear to be configurable in options.

So, I am using a seperate drive for downloads (K:), and would like to save incompleted files to the same drive (K:\Incoming).

How to do this? :-)

Incomplete Folder

Mallchin

You can set up your incomplete folder the same way you have set up your complete folder, you just have to go into Tools>Options to tell LW you have made this change.

I have moved my complete and incomplete folders from the default, on the C drive, to my I drive and now to my N drive.

May I also suggest you download and print out the LW manual because the answer to this and other questions you may want answers to are there.

Now I'm getting confused. lol :D Do you want your completed downlds in the same directory as incomplete files or not? I've never tried this. I have changed the location of one of the downld folders to a different location. If you check the 2nd link I gave above, I changed the programs folder to save to the C drive instead of drive G. But all others (audio, music, images & videos) are saving to the G Drive which is also where the incomplete folder is.

It does seem the incomplete folder is still non configurable which is why I suggested you initially choose one location so that the incomplete folder is set up there alongside the downld folder "Shared", & then change the location of each individual folder in the manner I changed one of them.

* But now I've got the impression you want both on the same drive ... so very easy. Just change the main downld location to K & the incomplete folder will be created in the new location. However, you may need to manually move across any old incomplete files. I would suggest you make the change of downld location within LW then close it. Then manually move the incompletes to the new incomplete folder on drive K. It might be due to LW still being open that the incompletes stil going to the same location. LW will not move the incomplete files to the new incomplete folder if you change downld location. You need to do that yourself.

Yes that does seem strange you have incompletes going to a separate location C drive than the completed downlds in drive K. Unless you changed the location of the individual downld folders. I'm still coming to terms with the extra downld location options of the newer LW. The earlier versions didn't allow this. Shared & Incompletes folders were always in the same directory. I'm not in the habit of frequently changing downld location so ... I might be short on help here.

LOL, this just gets more and more confusing, I thought I'd explained it pretty clearly :)

I want incompleted files saved in K:\Incoming and completed files saved in the root of K:\. although K:\Completed would be equally as good.

There is an option to change the completed files folder, but not the incompleted files folder.

I see what your saying about it using the same drive for incompleted files as it does for completed files, but this is not the case, the only place it saves incompleted files is C:\Incoming. I have quit LW and re-started it, as well as downloading new files, but the incompleted files always get saved in C:\Incoming.

If anyone thinks I am able to set the folder for incompleted files please give step-by-step instructions, as the suggestions so far (as far as I can see) are inconclusive.

ukbobboy01: Tools > Options > what? -- there is no option for this in my version
