Incomplete Download File won't delete at all. Hi. I'm distressed. I have a couple "Incomplete" downloads that do not show up on LW program, but when I go to the folder through my computer the file appears in the "Incomplete" folder. I try to delete it, but the popup message states: "Cannot delete numanuma.mp3:Cannot find specified file Make sure you specify the correct path and file name." What can I do? I have sat for three hours trying to figure it out. I've tried right-clicking them, but "delete" is not an option. I've tried dragging them to the Recycle Bin, but I'd get the cirle with a dash through it. I've even uninstalled LimeWire in hopes that the entire "LimeWire" folder and its subfolders(including "Incomplete") would disappear. What am I to do now? Please help me. |
See these: Deleting files in safe mode http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/howto-delete-xp.html http://ask-leo.com/why_cant_i_delete_this_file.html http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ Edit: I'll add this following one to the list (shareware), since I'm using this post as a reference: http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/dldelinv.htm Thanks to da1nonly. |
 Oh my god! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! You truly are Lord of the Rings(... web rings:rolleyes: ). It was the classic story. In the begining all the hyperlinks you sent didn't work, I was losing hope as I installed each software on your list and they didn't fix my problem. I was just adding more and more things to my disk space. I was ready to give up on the last one, saying "It is just going to be more waste of space on my computer. Nothing can help me with this problem." Then I said, "Oh, what the heck, I've gone this far." So I intsalled the program from your last hyperlink, "Unlocker", and tried it out. At first it said that the "folder has no Locks". I pounded my fist on the table in great disappointment. I glumly clicked the "OK" button. And then another window popped up, "But we can help you with this folder" I clicked on the drop-down list, selected 'Delete' and "poof" the folder was GONE! I didn't believe my eyes! I restarted the computer, it was still gone! I've been trying to get rid of that headache for weeks! Thank you Lord of the Rings!!!:p |
Fantastic! And thank you for posting back what happened & which one worked for you. :) |
WOW! You were fast on your last reply. I was re-editing my "Thank You" reply after I had just posted it. You answered back before I could repost my edit! How do you do it all{implied rhetorical question}. Well, thanks again for all your help. -Utlima Otiar out |

Norton Commander Cannot delete numanuma.mp3:Cannot find specified file I kept Norton Commader, a DOS program from Peter Norton (before Symantec bought him out), which lets me get rid of lots of things that windows xp refuses to delete and it works from within windows in ordinary or (if necessary) safe mode. It is called NC.exe. I kept it on a bootable floppy for checking out PCs at auctions and for helping other people with problem PCs. I put it on all my computers. |
I am first experiencing this problem. I have a song sticking that won't even get out of my incomplete files folder. Can someone please give detailed instruction on what to do. I don't want to download some program I will only use once that will just take up space on my computer ya know. Thanks. Please Help!!! |
OMG THANK YOU LORD OF THE RINGS i used the unlocker program in your post [2nd from the top] AND IT REMOVED WHAT I WANTED IT TO thank you so much |
Help.........my son downloaded a very raunchy file and I cannot delete it. It is an mpeg file, but it does not run. I cannot change the file name. If I right-click, in only get options such as play, burn to cd, add to play list, etc. I downloaded unlocker and it does not come up in the menu when I right-click. It does come up in other files that I don't want to delete. I have tried other programs today to get it deleted, but nothing works. I tried to go to safe mode, but it would not delete that way either. Several other files did, others I found by searching on certain words, so I found other stuff also. But I am stumped. It wouldn't be so bad if I could at least change the file name, but that won't work. Help! Spudman |
Did you try the DelinvFile thing (see the ask-leo link in LOTR's original post)? That worked for me once, when Unlocker didn't. |
Thank you very much Lord of the rings- I DELETED my file I started with the last solution you had and then went to the top. Ask Leo was the only one that worked for my situation. All the other programs I tried said 'file not valid' when I tried to delete my file. Here are the options I tried before I finally got rid of my file. First I tried to right click but I could not get a Delete nor a Rename to pop up. Then I tried to drop and drag to the recycle bin but absolutely nothing happened there. That’s when I started to download programs and the only one out of 4 that worked was this one- http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm The third one in Lord Of The Rings List about Ask Leo worked for me. :xeri_ok1ani: Thank you very very much. |
cant dele file mpeg lime wire help deleteing files no delete menu left click help for downloaded a Windows Media file that must have some protection on it. When I right click I don't get the option to rename or delete the file. I can't move the file to Recycle Bin or anything. Ok this program http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/dldelinv.htm can remove the issue, many questions I know will try to help, and this program is shareware trial it read DOS just like the old days, if you go to the run command form the start menu. Click on run and type command the box will come up. From there you can go to the directory which has the file you cannot delete, put you have to use dos commands like..... (change directory= cd) cd c:\the name...\....\.. If you have trouble use the above link to you the program that will open the directory without typing it all in you can use the mouse and click through it. you can type in on the web and look for dos help, the bottom line is that window can not delete the file because of a funny charactor like= *#thth.exe or t(funny charactor)ime.mpg once in dos you will see the charactor :xirokrotima: hope this helps also to get out of the command run box type in exit and hit the enter key ..... |
OMG!!! O_____O THANK YOU, YOU JUST SAVED MY ***!!!!! i used delete invalid file and it disappeared. THX! |
'You did it again" Lord of the Rings. I got a virus from *** download and was having a hell of a time trying to remove it. It just froze everying up when i tried to remove it. Im using vista home premium, its a pain in the ****! I tried f8 at start up but it does nothing, it just continues to log in window. |
And, straight from the horse's as.......... Windows Vista Help: Start your computer in safe mode I am sure that you will find the OFFICIAL guidelines far more helpful than anything you could get here. As in, Push F8 at Startup ! btw, Where is the pain ? I am not familiar with **** - But then, with Vista, it's a whole body and mind bad experience, eh ? What a con... Love the new promised file system ! (The one they never delivered.) Only thing to do with Vista is practice removing it so you can help your friends ! ;) |
File Would Not Delete update: Got It! It was in "My Music" folder. I went for it and deleted this folder. I know it sounds crazy! It would delete the folder as a whole but not the particular file by itself. Then I done a system startup scan with the blue screen set it tp autofix errors. It reinstated the Folder. It was just empty now. So I replaced the good music files with a back up. |
Everything else does not work I have a mpg file. Several actually. Which all have been deleted. However, I go to Search under the START Tab on the vista. It displays some of the mpg's that have been deleted. I go to delete them, it says " This is no longer located in *******. Verify the items location and try again. WHich they all say that. I have tried the "unlocker". Alot of shortcut fix programs. Registry fix programs. History deleters. EVERYTHING. Im getting tired of it saying its not there, when there it is on my screen, its there. So obviously the computer is stupid? |
So you tried this one? DelinvFile - Utility for Deleting Invalid Files and Folders 'If' the download file is still in your downloads list in LW, then press the Cancel button. CLOSE LimeWire, (you will have to sacrifice your incomplete files to do this), delete your LW preferences Point #2 or most likely 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) OR if VISTA see instructions for finding the folder here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html & delete it. To double-check, go to your LW incomplete folder & remove any files called Downloads.dat or Downloads.bak If that does not do the trick, then create a new folder, move all your good files to it, delete the entire folder where this 'rogue' file is. Then rename the folder you created to be exact to the older one & move it back. See if that works. :) |
That deleting the "rogue file" by isolating it in the original folder helped. Thanks lord of the rings...if it wasnt for you...the file from hell wouldve been pissing me off even more. |
Downloading problems I have a problem similar to the ones that have been mentioned and would appreciate any help. I downloaded a file and tried to move it to another folder. I was notified file was being used by another program and could not be moved or deleted. I tryed to close all programs including limewire but it didn't work. Then my shared folder and "my computer" folders started to freeze. I finally had to delete my shared folder and create a new one to get rid of the file. The freezing disappeared but I developed a new problem after restarting the computer. Upon reopening limewire, I got a notice that my old incomplete files could not be resumed. Now my library displays that these files have made 0% progress even though they are in my incomplete folder in their unfinished state. I would deeply appreciate any ideas. Thanks. |
Usually when that happens, once the incomplete files actually start to download they will resume at previous download %, but in meantime will show zero%. :) |
Thanks for the help, I'll try restarting the files. |
