T3 Results Only

Does anyone know why every song on a particular album returns T3 results ONLY. All of these results arrive within 5 seconds and the search is over, unlike normal searching which lasts for more than 30 seconds.

I don't have a virus or any spyware, as I have ran my AVG, Adaware and Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Thankyou for any help.

Beware of T3s Higher because those are generally the fake hosts that generate the viruses/trojans. as a rule, I generally stay away from them and dl off a fellow cable user.

Try changing up your search keywords. Instead of searching for the album try the artist name or try the song titles ect. Mix it up to get better results. Also check the file sizes, stay away from anything less than 1MB.

Thankyou both for your advice. I sure don't download from T3s any more since reading comments in this forum a few weeks ago.

I am keen to get the songs from this album, and don't type the album name in, just the song names but still get only T3s for every song! I will just have to give up on this one... it just seems strange though.

What are the file types? If the T3 are all .wma, you could try filtering out that type then do a search. In LW Tools>Options>Filters>Keywords then add the extension then apply. You can always remove it later. Can't think of anything else.

Edit: You could block the T3 hosts 1-by-1 and then try the search.

Searching to get a particular file is like brainstorming. As you are best to vary your search as much as possible. Search for just the album under Any Type search. Search just the artists name. Search titles from the album. Everytime you see a result that has titles from that album, then browse them. Another alternative is to try for albumwraps. But that's only if people are sharing albumwraps of that particular artist or album. In that case, search for albw, album, albumwrap, total, complete, at the end of the name. eg: beebles - albw or beebles best hits - albw/complete/album, etc. How to Downld whole albums & Albumwrap

As hinted above, perhaps nobody is sharing that album or songs from that album, or they're not online at moment. Perhaps the only person(s) sharing it are weekend users or just occasional users of gnutella network sharing.

BTW not all T3's are bad (contracted by the RIAA.)

Thankyou for your reply, Lord of the Rings... this is a reply to 6_pac, and now I will go and follow your advice.

The file types are all mp3. Typical search for any song from that artist was over in 5 seconds and got 202 results. There was one T1 and the rest were T3. Every one of them had #s ranging 2 - 8. A variety of sizes between 4 mb and 10. Thanks for the keyword idea though, for other songs... I added wma, w4a and mid to the Ignore list, but a new one has turned up... ogg (only once though).

If I were you keep the AV going and AV scan each file you download if off the T3 or Higher, some are ok, you can usually tell if its a fake host easy enough. I only download MP3 files as they are usually, virus free. unless its been generated by a trojan and wrongly named and are under a meg.

Here's a silly question. Under Tools->Options->Searching->Speed is 'Show Only Results of T1 speed or higher' selected?

Sphinx November 23rd, 2005 08:26 PM

here's an obvious question for ya, do you guys check what prefs you wish to except hosts/speeds from in tools/options? I have mine set to accept all connections including T3's I dont limit my searches that way. ;) if you got it set so it shows all T3's, then, thats all it wil show in the search results, not sure if Im explaining it right or not. but you can adjust that in your settings.

JadeNJasper November 23rd, 2005 11:23 PM

No, mine is selected to Show All Speeds.

It's really amazing how 200 or more T3's only, appear within 3 - 5 seconds, flowing down the screen! Normal searching, when modem, cable, T1 and T3 etc. show up, it takes at least 30 seconds, and is more erratic - not a flow. So that seems a bit shonky/weird!

It would be great to turn off all T1s and T3s, I reckon. I only want to see modem and cable. Anyway, it's still a great program :D

Sphinx November 23rd, 2005 11:34 PM

I hope you realize that some users do tend to lie about their connection. ;)

modem users make me cringe lol. Thank god for cable speeds. heh. :D

when I want to do a rare song search I resort to my trusty bearshare lite, I seem to get better search results than in LW.

good luck.

.ogg files

I use .ogg files in preferance to mp3. I've done a lot of listenieng with my big Carver system and speakers and have come to the conclusion that .ogg is better than mp3 files (when comparing at the same bit rate). The only thing is that if you use portible players, you would need to dump iPod and go to iRiver (or something). I rip CDs using cDex (free) and it comes with some codecs including Ogg Vorbus (.ogg). Generally I am happy with bit rates of 160 or greater. I have also downloaded 2 variations of the ACC codec and quite like it too. It is the new mp3 replacement and iPod can see it. Some ACC codecs can come preset to 15K max frequency and others you can change. Hope this is helpful. Finally, I wish more people used .ogg.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2005 04:25 PM

iTunes by nature does not support ogg vorbis. I had to get a 3rd party iTunes plug-in to play & auto-import ogg files on a mac. But now with iTunes 6, it sees them & locates them in the video playlist. lol :D * Ogg is good at the higher bit-rates but in my own personal experience at ripping using ogg, I don't recommend joined stereo & low bitrates or lower sample rate. It's very telling on ogg!

BTW you can filter out spam results using the keyword filter -> wma, wmv, jpg, zip & exe which will take out the majority if not all.

1. autogenerated mp3 spam results

2. See Arrange search results by size (click on link)

3. WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

4. Direct instructions to eliminate porn from results

Thank you for your help. It was fantastic. I've downloaded Spybot. But haven't downloaded Peerguardian... as it looks like it is not finishied being developed yet. I'm not good enough if anything goes wrong... Thanks again, Rodney.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2005 05:09 PM

Oh you're a local, don't worry ... peerguardian has been around for a while but they had problems with someone who tried to take over their finances. They temporarily relocated but I believe now they've now gone back to the original server. http://phoenixlabs.org/ It helps to block out known organisations that want to spy on you & more. (Pity the OSX version is independent & doesn't totally support the earlier osx versions) :(

I would also recommend: ad-ware (FREE)

BTW make sure you got spybot from the right place; see Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) (p2p friendly! Whereas some similar programs think p2p programs have spyware. duh! )
