LimewirePro download speed spiking!! I have a ADSL/ethernet broardband 256k connection with a link speed of 100Mbps, my average individual limewire download speed is 1 - 10 KB/s with usually more than 2 hosts, and evey 10 or so minutes it will spike to between 100, 200, or even 300 KB/s, I want to know how I can keep my download speeds at 300 KB/s. I have tried turning off my firewall, and my antivirus (avast) I have added the limewire port to my firewall settings. I have a D-LINK dsl-302g generation 2 modem I would really appreciate the help thx!! NOTE: When I download anything straight of the internet they download at an average of 30KB/s each |

For a start, AFAIK D-Link modems do not have UPnP abilities. I think you'll find that the case if you do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? I suspect yours will be false which means your modem is acting like a firewall (it uses NAT.) I also use a D-Link but I had to use manual port forwarding to open port 6346 to allow people to upload from me. Sure I could downld but I got much better results once people were uploading from me. If you're willing to go down the manual port forwarding road, then find your model at the bottom left column here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm 1st step is the hardest but most important; setting up a static ip. If you don't do this properly the process won't work after you reconnect. 2nd step is forwarding port 6346. Wise to do a separate port forward for each of TCP & UDP rather than both at once. You will probably need to reboot your modem for this to be properly saved. Last step is within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. I've a suspicion that if you do this, your speeds will be more consistent. (No guarantees!)

By that I meant when i checked my, task menu>networking>link speed. its says 100 Mbps , and network utilization 0.23 % (on average) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wise to do a separate port forward for each of TCP & UDP rather than both at once. You will probably need to reboot your modem for this to be properly saved ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry I dont understand what you mean by TCP & UDP? or about rebooting the modem, can you explain how to do this? Thx! I also forgot to mention im using my laptop therefore it'll probably be running through another modem. I appreciate your help! |

Did you go to the port forward page I suggested. It explains how to do. TCP & UDP are the control for incoming & outgoing from your modem. I can't remember which is which. You'll see it once you log into your modem & get to the appropriate page. Wow looking at the instructions for your model certainly look more complicated than mine. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...2/Limewire.htm With mine (504G), I have the option for forwarding a port for both or for one of TCP/UDP. * BTW are you connecting from home/work/school? * Are you networked with other computers? Are any of them using the net also (or using p2p sharing)? * Do a speed test with LW closed & not using other net programs except your browser: http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html It helps to know these things in advance.
