corrupt file hi, how do i resume a corrupt file. i was downloading a clip and it stop at 99% saying the file was corrupt. i've previewed the clip and what i've seen of it looks good, so i want to resume it. can i? how? i think my settings are set to auto stop corrupt files. |
Why would you want to resume a corrupt file????? Its corrupt, it could have a virus or something, my advice to you would be delete it and choose another.... |
"IF" it's an AVI or MPG/MPEG file then it should be safe from virii. If the last 1% is corrupt, then see if you can ignore it. It's probably only the final credits of the video missing anyway. So then do what you want with it, view it or burn it. ie: Take it out of the incomplete folder & remove it from the downld window (using the Stop button.) Make sure you can play the file before doing anything else with it. I'd recommend VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) to check how it plays & whether it can be played! It still might be usable. The corruption might be due to a no. of things such as somebody changing the tag info after you started to downld it (light corruption) or the file itself is corrupt due to poor encoding or the file was corrupted due to interference in the transmission of data. Or the corruption is due to file corruption ... various reasons such as corrupt HDD directory or other system or HDD problems. |
Hey LOTR, I'm now a bit embarressed, I freak when it comes up with corrupt file only thinking the worst, now I know there can be many reasons for this.....:o Cheers...;) |
LW will attempt to redownld that portion where it detects any corruption up to 6 times before it gives up. Sometimes it's worth doing this because on the alternate efforts to redownld the last part, it can be acceptable/successful by LW which suggests some missing bits of data be they as small as 1 bit or byte. But then sometimes it goes thru all 6 times without success. But that still doesn't mean it can't be used. But that depends on what type of corruption it is. (Oh other reasons for corruption ... old & unreliable modem/router, poor connections with cable, unreliable transmission (high packet loss of data) due to ISP over transmission lines. There's prolly more reasons also.) wondering why ... np keep it in mind for future. ;) :) |
hi. took the file out of the 'incomplete' folder and watched it. it was the whole clip. must have been the last bit or something. any way, thanks for help. |
