Virus

I need help. I seem to have downloaded some kind of virus possibly because I had my Windows Firewall turned off . I'm not sure.

Now IE defaults to www.needupdate.com and I can't reset it back to my default homepage.

The web page claims to be "Security Center - Microsoft Internet Explorer", is telling me it has detected SpyWare on my PC and is inviting me to download anti-spyware. It says "Your private info is collected by W32.Sinnaka.A@mm"

Can anyone advise me how to fix this?

Thanks.

Trevor

You can find some more links (such as for ad-aware) here WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) If you still have problems after using the suggested utilities by mikepike, then see point #5 & contact Norbie. Though I just posted at his forum & he refused to help me. Either that or Norbie didn't know the answer.

Thanks, LOTR

After I posted that previous message I did a lot of reading round (should have done that first I know). Turns out I had Schmitfraud-C on my PC as well as the W32.Sinnaka.A@mm thing.

My McAfee Viruscan didn't detect either of these nor did Ad-Aware (both up to date).

I downloaded SpyBot Search and Destroy. This detected the Schmitfraud-C but couldn't clean it. It was always there when I re-scanned.

I then bought a license online for "The Spyguard" which was one of the recommended programs on the MS Security Center page. This also didn't detect Schmitfraud and kept crashing so I'm now asking for a refund from them.

Lastly, I downloaded "Malwarewipe" and this appears to have detected and cleaned both as well as a few other things I didn't even know I had and my PC is behaving normally now.

No sure what I've learned from all this except the problem seems to have been fixed.
