Why is lime wire so slow for dialup?

Hello. I know this has been asked before. However i did a few control tests.

I wished to see the difference between basic and pro limewire.

Testing with the same isp that has all three, dialup, dsl and cable internet services.

Using the same computer, and a remote computer connected to the net and limewire (pro and basic).
Remember each end of the test was tested with equivalent limewire basic or pro and also mixing versions as well. The test was performed over a 2 week peroid and at varying times of the day.

Here is the setup (limewire):

Limewire basic-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> 56kb -modem->>>>speed: 1 k/s

Limewire basic-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> DSL -connection->>>> speed: 15 k/s

Limewire basic-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> CABLE -connection->>>> speed: 18-20 k/s

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Limewire *PRO*-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> 56kb -modem->>>>speed: 1k/s

Limewire *PRO*-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> DSL -connection->>>>speed: 17k/s

Limewire *PRO*-->dialup setup-->>1000k file-->>> cable -connection->>>>speed: 24k/s.

What's wrong with this picture? I went out of my way to leave the limewire connection type in dialup (control test) form/configuration to test the theory that limewire purposely slows dialup.

Well in this test along with many others the dialup speed
is and an average of 500% slower than it should be.

There is no measurable difference between Basic and pro
for dialup. There is no real significant improovement for DSL either between pro and basic, at least not for 19$ USD.

When one compares this to other on-line share services that send files to dialup at 5 k/s. It leaves one thinking just what is limewire good for if your limited to a dial up
net connection at limewire speeds slower than a 1200 baud modem.

Thinking about it a commodore 64 is faster (no joke).

Thanks for listening.

I used dial up with LW for 3 years. I didn't get such slow speeds as you apparently received. I also get faster adsl speeds yet I'm at the bottom end of adsl (256/64 kbps). I get 27 KB/s speeds in total, sometimes I get individual downlds into the 20 KB/s. But since I generally downld more than one file at a time ... On dial up, I downlded some might large files & wasn't suffering 1 KB/s speeds & I was using LW Basic.

I suspect the problem is either with your set-up, your isp, or your sources for downlding the files. Particularly if you're not uplding at the same time on dsl or higher.
