Download speed

Okay I have done everything that I have read on here with the download speed and configured the router but my download speed went from high down to real low...why is that and if anyone can help me please reply...this just started yesterday

Irvine :(

Since you've read all about the problems, you've seen that the download depends on the source, how busy it is, and many such factors when your machine is properly set up.

So, I don't understand your question. . .

The other case is when the ISP throttles your downloads or uploads. Search google for "bandwith caps" to find out more, then check with your ISP's help desk.

Like i said I have done everything to bring up the speed when I am downloading it was between 20 to kb/s now it won't go past 4 kb/s I do have cable and a router and my hubby has configured the router and it still won't up my speed ..this just started yesterday and I am very frustrated that it won't go past 4 kb/s...now we did get a new modem on Friday would that have anything to do with it??

Irvine

That sounds very sensible.

by "new modem" do you mean a new router? or did your ISP relpace the modem you use to connect to the company?

Your hubby might want to check if the device is "UPnP" enabled

Irvine January 15th, 2006 12:07 PM

I mean a new isp modem ...sorry about that ...does he still have to check it to see if is ?

stief January 15th, 2006 12:14 PM

Yes, but check too if the new ISP allows full filesharing on the gnutella network, or if they "throttle" or limit filesharing.

Take a look at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712 for more examples

okay I just got an email from source cable and they said no they were'nt blocking none of them so how do I check my modem to see if it is uPNP?

Grandpa January 15th, 2006 12:28 PM

And if that fails try the .limewire fix in the link below

Nope it didn't work  I did everything you said

Grandpa January 15th, 2006 01:51 PM

And who is your ISP

Irvine January 15th, 2006 01:53 PM

quickclic -source cable
I have already asked them and they said no

Grandpa January 15th, 2006 02:34 PM

What brand and model number is your modem

Irvine January 15th, 2006 06:31 PM

Its a Motorola SB5100.

Grandpa January 15th, 2006 06:43 PM

I just looked up the modem it should not have anything to do with your problem. What is the make and model of your router.

Irvine January 15th, 2006 06:58 PM

The router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 hardwired. And it has UPnP. We have been using it for a couple of years now with no problems. Our internet connection is good, (5737 kbps DL, which is pretty fast).

Grandpa January 15th, 2006 07:23 PM

I use a Linksys and I use to have the same modem as you myself when I run in port forward mode I would sometimes have problems with it when using LimeWire. Fore some reason LW will apparently overload the router in Port Forward and my DL speed would drop drastically I would then Have to reset the router to default by pressing and holding down the reset button for 10 sec. You might want to try doing this after you do this set your router to use UPnP if that is not what you are currently using. I do not have this problem when running in UPnP mode.

I hope it helps I do not know of any other fixes.

Thanks for the info, but I tried what you suggested to no avail. Still getting a poor connection, I'll play around with it a little and see if I can sort it out.

Irvine January 18th, 2006 05:40 PM

For some reason Im getting normal download speeds (up to 170kbs) again, not sure what the problem was, maybe there was an issue with the server, nothing I did helped any.

stief January 18th, 2006 05:47 PM

Strange, but good (this time). :)

I've been asking around trying to find out if there might be a bug, and a few people have noticed unusual download speeds. Anyway, nothing obvious has been discovered yet, so please keep watching for factors.

cheers

Grandpa January 18th, 2006 05:56 PM

Glad to here it is back to normal.

stief January 18th, 2006 08:31 PM

Ha! I spoke too soon! zab has discovered and fixed a bug, and LW has just released a beta with the fix included.

see here for the technical details https://www.limewire.org/fisheye/cha...20060118194646

Congrats to zab, and you all know where to get your beta :)

Grandpa January 18th, 2006 09:10 PM

I have been using 4.10.4 for about a hour now I thought it was getting more sources faster, I thought it was just my imagination.Or there were more users on the net. Good Job zab
