Good quality picture but NO sound coming out

hi....

How come some movies come up and have beautiful quality picture and look great but don't have any sound???

I have found this a few times and its always been with DivX..... however, some DivX do definitely work, but on some not.... any ideas? people experience this?

heidi

ps.... all the sound things are fine!

This may or may not be due to the actual video. It may be the poor quality codec/program used to convert it. It might be difficulties divx player has handling some of these files. Sometimes it's handy to try some other players just in case. eg: VLC would be my 1st recommendation. Another is one of the avi players listed here such as the 1st one: CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

Keep in mind that audio for video may be sub-converted using quite a wide range of audio formats. That in itself might be the reason. That's why I recommended trying VLC 1st as it has quite a dynamic range of audio formats. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Wow..... it worked!!!! Just like when I had trouble playing DVD's on this computer .... i found somewhere along cyberspace that I should download VLC and try the DVD on there..... and it worked....

I'm becoming a VLC gal not a Windows media gal..... except REALLY like Windows.... oh well... i'll TRY to let go.;)

Thanks Lord of the rings.... what a great set!! My fav right now is LOST... my cuz and i are catching up so to speak...

Yeah I watch it too. Got taken in despite its slow pace.

BTW you can change the skins for VLC. You can downld them from their site.

Old favourites: I was originally a QuickTime user for videos, but now I only use QT for one format & VLC for all the others. And for audio streaming, I interchange between itunes & VLC.

which format do you use Quicktime for???

do you use Windows media for anythign.... i have all my music on that one and i like it... what about nero?

Lost is truly amazing.... i read on their forum that they might make 6 season..... how is that possible and will people get bored before then. I think its a phenomenal show....

thanks so much for the help.....

I use QuickTime for Mpeg 2 & .mov files, though I could just as easily use VLC. I only use wmp when I really must.

6 seasons ... wow I'm not sure I could last that long. lol :D
