How to reduce upload slots?

Please, can someone tell me how to reduce the number of upload slots available. I have just upgraded to limewire pro and an on broadband - 1gb. I have amd athlon chip, 750mb of ram and am running windows xp.
while I was on dial up, no-one tried to upload from me, but tonight since switching the computer on , there have been 20 uploaders plus a queue of 10. My computer really has gone slow, I cannot do much myself online - I have been trying to access my usual forums and play games. It has taken me over 20 mins to register here and start reading posts about uploading.
I am happy to share, but not at this rate!!

On my tools/options/upload page there is no basic item or an upload bandwidth to alter.
Grateful for any help as I cannot find the info in the user guide.

Hehehehe the problem is probably your downlds not your uploads. lol :D

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Downlds to change slots & bandwidth; & Tools>Options>Uploads>Basic to contol bandwidth & >Slots to control ... I don't know what. lol :D

I'd suggest you reduce bandwidth for both slightly. To have a good idea about how to set yourself up healthily, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27036 as this topic is covered. Feel free to ask Murasame any advice on your set up. But give him plenty of details of your set up & tested up & down speeds using speed tests.

Thank you very much. I only changed over to lw pro last night so have never experienced this. Unlike many others, downloading has been painless so far and it is only this evening with so many uploading that I have been troubled. I will do as you suggest.

Here's some speed test sources ... choose your location: Choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

Here's some more: http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest

You should only do the speed tests whilst LW is closed & not use the net for anything else other than the speed test. Record all test results & post them in a reply to the above thread.

Will do so over today. Thanks for reminder to close all other programs .

If you are using a Windows OS

If you are still experiencing problems after changing the settings you might want to try this windows patch

EviD Patch

It will increase the limit of half-open connections, window will allow at the same time. default is 10. experiment with different limits and see what works best for you. If it doens't help, then use 10 again, as you are will spread malware faster to other computers if you are infected with anything

Warning: read carefully what it says on the webpage before using it. Your virusprogram will probably delete it when you try to open it, as it will recognize it as a hacking tool.

Disconnect your internet and disable antivirus while patching, and then reenable it after youre done.

Also you will need to reapply the patch everytime you update windows, because windows update will reset it

use at own risk. I do ;)

Another question - perhaps it should go to a new thread?
I have found and altered the upload slots from the 20 and computer is running normally at the moment.
Out of courtesy to other users, is it usual to leave an internet connection open for any particular length of time. I have no wish to cut anyone off, but even with 5 slots open and a lot queuing it would be endless. Normally I am online for perhaps an hour in the morning and then a couple of hours in the evenings.

Thank you. I will leave it on for longer periods in the evening, but would not want it on when I am out of the house or asleep.

that's cool ... I do often leave mine on unattended ...especially if I'm downloading a big file(s) ... but you worry the first few times you do it lol :)
