I just installed BearShare. Gave up after a few minutes.

- Searching no better than here: I want it to return results that contain ALL the words I enter not just ONE of them.

- Enormous trouble setting up my shares. It forced me to share my download directory, which I never do, then when I removed it from the shares was telling me I was sharing nothing.

Basically it's poor.

btw. I might upgrade to pro if they can guarantee to fix problem (1) above. I want my shares to come up only with what I have searched for and no more. And I don't want this "too specific" crap.

Search results depend entirely on the responder, not the software you use.
Limewire is the servent most guilty of returning partial matches to searches.
BearShare deliberately errs in your favour and shows all results, though you can
restrict it a bit in Setup/Searching by selecting "Hide non-matching results".

Shares will not appear until you have downloaded and shared them, and are
not supposed to be filled with your own searches. If you are sharing nothing,
wouldn't you want the software to be aware of that? Simply put; if you aren't
actually downloading and don't have the files yet, how can you share them?

Feel free to share more folders whenever you wish from any disk on your
computer. The downloads folder is only one option, and obviously you aren't
being "forced" to share it if you were able to unshare it so easily within
minutes of installing BearShare. It is selected by default as a convenience to
users, nothing more, and there is nothing sinister about that.

Did it, done that. I'm set at "5" and LW still doesn't display any results. See my prev msg -- the bestest, fastest, onliest, fix I've found is to uninstall and reinstall LW. I've had this prob 3, 4, maybe 5 times in the last year or 2. Just one of those glitches.

So I stick by my guns - un- and then reinstall LW.

wldnfunguy,
see my post dated 3 days before this one. doesn't matter what ISP u use. try uninstalling and then reinstalling LW. Works for me. Everytime. Several times. Don't know why. Irritating? Yes. Easily remedied? Also yes.
