.mp3 designation??

when i download an .mp3 file on my mac, it automatically makes it a Quicktime file, but i dont want it to be. does anyone know how to change this, so it saves as an itunes file or a soundjam file (or any other music program)?? since i use soundjam to play my music, i'd like to be able to double click the file which would then open soundjam. thanx for the help.....

Also, to answer the first Unregistered about not having MP3s turn into QuickTime documents and the most recent Unregistered:

- to not have the files save as QuickTime go to Apple:Control Panels:QuickTime Settings:QuickTime Exchange. Uncheck "Enable QuickTime Exchange" and restart for the setting to take effect. Then to have the downloaded documents open in something else (my instructions most likely to work in the newest version of LimeWire and classic OS 9.x):

Make a file with a creator code of 'hook' and a type code of 'Mp3 ' using one of the type and creator code applications such as FileTyper. These codes are case sensitive and always four characters so this type code ends with a space. Open Control Panels:File Exchange. There are two tabs and here you want to work from the File Translation tab. Click Add... at the bottom of the window and pick the file that you set the codes too. Another dialog will display with applications that can play MP3s such as QuickTime Player or Audion. Soundjam should be in this list too. Select an app and now files of that type open with the selected app.

- To get files to open in QuickTime check "Enable QuickTime Exchange" in QuickTime Settings, path to it given above.
