Default Can't play movie! Downloaded codecs!

Hi,

I just recently downloaded a movie and I couldn't play it. So naturally I headed over to www.free-codecs.com and just started downloading some codec packages hoping that it would now allow me to play the movie. I had done this before and it had worked fine but this time it didn't.

So I looked at the FAQ and downloaded MediaInfo to help me find the codecs I was missing. Will it came up with two codecs and I downloaded those and I still can't play the movie. Anyone know what might be the problem? I doubt this matters but the movie is Mr. and Mrs. ***.

Please help!

Try VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has in-built codecs & is generally very reliable.

There's also other codec identifiers if you check the section sticky you'll find a list of them.

Well, I tried it and it still didn't work. Not sure if I played it right though. I just did it through "Quick Open File" and all I got was a 15 second clip of nothing. It was just like a normal sound clip except I didn't hear anything...

May I ask how large the file is?

If VLC can't play it then I'd be extremely worried. It sounds like a dud file or an extremely poorly converted & unchecked file to me.

Try the various codec identifier programs here CODECs list and alternate players for Movies (even if this file is a dud, those codec identifier programs can be very handy to have around ... though generally VLC will play anything & if it can't then well ...)

It's 729 MB or something around there so I'm pretty sure that it's actually a movie. Maybe I just got a dud.

See if there's any user feedback on that particular file by using Bitzi lookup; How to use Bitzi Web Lookup
What extension is the file? I'm guessing it's an avi right?
