no firewall but firewall detected? and slow?

I have the current version of LW, and until today was on dialup internet access. I now have DSL and it's working fine on all respects.

However, started LW and it shows firewall, when there is no firewall at all. I even disabled all popup, spyware, adware software. Still shows firewall.

In addition, I tried to download and is seems no faster than when I was on dialup. In fact, one sample took longer than it would have for the same type/size file before I went to dsl.

Windows XP, 384meg memory, only ONE download attempted at a time, DSL (the "slow" 768 version) but verifying average of 705.

Stopping, starting, restarting, rebooting, none have even once removed the "detected firewall" icon.

Any suggestions would be great. I am a bit disappointed in this....I was almost ready to purchase 'pro' but now I wonder if there is any point. I noticed someone else was actually SLOWER with pro? wow.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

13. Do a speed test post the results here.

Your Westell apparently has a firewall in it the link below may help.

o k ....? I guess I don't follow....even if it DOES have a firewall, if the default it OFF, then why would that affect this?

No other inbound or outbound programs I have tried have any issues whatsoever. That is why it is hard for me to understand why LW is acting "different"

Would it be of any benefit to uninstall and reinstall a fresh copy of lw, in other words, would "fresh" defaults upon setup make any difference?

I logged into the wesfall maint. thing, and restored, (after I looked at all options---I see nothing in there that says anything about an active firewall....?)

I had THOUGHT this would be one of the benefits of having dsl in the first place, but I wonder? at least I'm not alone...seems like people across the gamut are having issues too.

Willing to try anything else if ideas surface!

There are 2 possibilities here ether your firewall is only allowing limited connections or your ISP is shaping filtering your connection. LimeWire has no problems if you have a good connection with nothing blocking it. I have no problem DL at 700KBs+ along with many others who use LimeWire. My suggestion is call your ISP and ask what their policy is on P2P apps try a couple of different P2P programs and see if you can get better results with them. If your results are the same with them then you know it is your ISP or your router. And if your router/modem is not configured properly it can have a big effect on your ability to download.

You might find the link below it is about ISP that are know to block otr filter P2P apps and Verizon is mentioned in there but I did not see where it was confirmed.

I just looked up you router at the westell site in the documentation the default setting is medium you will need to configure it to work with limewire. The link below is the documentation for your modem.

I had already read that document, but finally got my "courage" up and went into the configuration etc. This modem is factory set at None: ALL TRAFFIC ALLOWED.

I'm going to continue to look around but I just don't see how the modem is the problem. And if it were, I would think it would be affecting my other programs like video chat etc.

Something new every day, eh? :-)
