Reencode or recode just means that someone has recoded or converted the file (like mpeg to avi) or has made it smaller size (loss of quality).
If you're downloading DVD it can be recoded (decrypted) so that it has no protection or just the main movie. DVD's are very rare on the network because you can't share complete folders

I use Nero so I don't know anything about DVD Santa

raisinkane_04, I have already answered that question for you, its a corrupted file and dvdsanta will not burn it, its a wonder you can access your shared folder outside of LW....

There the two threads I helped you with a couple of days ago..

You will have to un-install and then re-install dvdsanta....

If you have purchased santa their support team will help you...

Can you please clear one thing up for me ?

Is this movie you are trying to burn the same file that Bitzi users say is currupted or another one ?

If it is another one, did you manage to delete the currupted file ?

P.S. did the filename have Scotto in it :D

well wondering yes u did help me out before and i appreciate that very much. this is a whole different situation. i did redownload dvd santa like u said . now it is saying: dvd santa has encountered a problem and must close, sry for the inconvenience. the other message just said it couldnt open that type of file. the thing is: it will work for other movies just not this particular one. i accidentaly put it in network share folder by mistake, was wondering if that had anything to do with iti cant seem to move it from there to my limewire shared.

Is it a avi file ? If it is then try the afree codec VT program

You can get it here

http://afreecodec.com/

Just install, open it and drag the videofile to it

Then you get the information on exactly what codec it is

Maybe DVDSanta doesn't support the codec and thats why it doesn't work

raisinkane_04 March 21st, 2006 02:50 PM

same thing

i downloaded afreecodec and it said the very same thing. it says"afreecodec has encountered a problem and must close. i dont know that much about all this but i dont understand it cause it plays just fine on my pc. thx for ur help sleepless.

freecodec says: video codec is: xviD MPEG_4 it says the Avi file seems to be valid and complete video fourcc XVID audio code 8192 have no idea what all that means lol thx for help sleep

Sorry raisinkane_04, I thought it was still the same problem...

I have had this happen a couple of times the file plays perfectly on the pc but santa wont burn it...

So I go back to the drawing board and re-install it and then the files work fine....

ps...when you fix what the problem was please let us know even if the solution we give is of no help....;)

If AFreeCodecVT also had problems reading the file the first time as well as DVDSanta can't burn it, I think the file is the problem. It probably has some sort of glitch in the coding. FourCC X-viD is a common avi-format and I don't see why there should be any problem at all for AFCVT to determine videocodec

You could try some other software. I don't think that Nero has any trialversion for the 7th edition but you might find one for Nero 6. You could also try the WinAVI Video Converter to see if you can convert to DVD with that.

note: Both the programs I mentioned you will have to pay for to get full use of. WinAVI puts a watermark on the finished movie in trial version and Nero (if I remember correctly) has a 1 month limit on the trial version

P.S. If you really want this movie it would be alot quicker to just go out and buy it instead of spending even more money on software. Also I'm sure the quality would be better ;)
